    Boston (+3) at WASHINGTON

    By Sean Michaels, Featured Handicapper

Now, let's get to your free pick. Last night it was an easy winner on the Clippers as a road dog at Memphis.

Tonight, I take you to Washington for the Wizards battle with the Celtics.

Washington just went into Boston on Sunday and got a huge overtime victory over the Celts, 99-98. Now, it's time for the Celtics to return the favor.

I have not trusted the Wizards as a home favorite lately, as they have covered just one of their last six at home since March 1. They have been a little Dr.Jekyl/Mr.Hyde lately losing to the Hawks in Atlanta but beating the Celtics in Boston.

I like the Celtics playing this game with a little chip on their shoulders.

I know that Washington is fighting for their playoff life, but that still is not enough for me to lay three with this team right now. Especially with the Wizards playing on back to back nights this late in the season, and Jordan playing 46 minutes Tuesday night against Cleveland.

Washington don't match up with the Celtics to begin with and I like Boston to win the game outright. Plain and simple. Boston is well rested and ready to take care of business tonight against a Wizard club playing its third game in four nights.

    PICK: 1 BOSTON

    Chicago at DETROIT -8

    On to your free selection...

The Detroit Pistons look to break a four game losing streak as they host the suddenly potent Chicago Bulls. The Bulls have beaten division rivals Milwaukee and Indiana at home, while the Pistons most recently lost last night by 17 in Philadelphia.

Chicago has won two in a row, but those were at home and they have been dreadful on the road this year exemplified by their 3-36 SU record. Recently against Detroit, approximately two weeks ago on the 23rd of March, they were beat by 23 on the road in Detroit.

Detroit returns home where as a favorite of 6 1/2 to 9 points this season they are 12-1 SU and 8-4 ATS. When playing a team with a losing record this season, they are 28-11 SU and 23-15 ATS.

Detroit has won and covered the past four meetings with the Bulls. Even without Ben Wallace, they still should be able to get the job done at home by double digits.

    PICK: 3 DETROIT

    Portland at SAN ANTONIO (-8)

    By Alan Rolli, Managing Editor

So much is at stake for San Antonio in the season's final week.

Last night's loss by Dallas to the Lakers has left the Spurs and Mavs tied for the league's best record. Obviously, San Antonio would love to earn the homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs.

But, proving just how closely bunched the competitors are in the West, Tim Duncan and company only have a one-game lead over Sacramento in the playoff standings, and a third-place seeding would leave the Spurs with a first-round match-up with the Lakers. And you know Los Angeles is the last team San Antonio wants to meet in the opening round of the postseason.

The rested Spurs are in control of their own destiny, and them remain in the driver's seat with a convincing win tonight against a Portland club playing its third game in four nights.

San Antonio has won nine in a row, covering eight of those contests. In fact, the Spurs have won 38 of their last 45 overall.

Duncan and friends won at the Rose Garden, 116-111, in overtime as a five-point dog February 11 in the teams' last meeting, earning their second straight cover in the series. They should extend that streak to three in a row tonight at home where they're 31-7 on the season.

    PICK: 1 SAN ANTONIO

    Minnesota at SEATTLE (Total 187')

    By Chris Jordan, Featured Handicapper

Now as far as this free pick, play the UNDER tonight as this will be a playoff-like caliber game in Seattle. The Timberwolves have never had much success in Seattle, but they know the key to experiencing such is defense. Teams are zoning Minnesota, banging Kevin Garnett and doubling him. He’s been forced to find the open man and his teammates have not responded.

But they did turn up the defensive pressure the other night in holding Portland to just 78 points. Likewise, the Sonics are turning to defense to win games as they’re shooting just 40 percent from the field in the last five games. After scoring only 85 on Kings last night, Seattle takes the court tonight having played UNDER in 11 of 18 in the second of back-to-back games this year.

These two belly-up against each other as evidence by their playing UNDER in four straight overall and four of five in Seattle. Last week, the Timberwolves battled for a tough 92-83 win over the Sonics. Only twice in the last four meetings has a team been able to top 92 points. This one will play UNDER fellas.

    PICK: 2 UNDER

    Dallas at PHOENIX (+2')

    By Chuck Franklin, Featured Handicapper

    Now, today's free selection:

The Suns, after a 20-point blowout win last night, are on the verge of clinching the final playoff spot in the West. Their first round opponenet likely will be Dallas. They will compete with playoff like intensity tonight. The Suns are 10-1 ATS as a pick or dog at home this year. Dallas is 5-15 ATS as a road favorite of –6.5 or less this year. The Suns need this game badly and will be ready for the playoff bound Mavericks.

    PICK: 3 PHOENIX

MATCHUP: Anaheim Angels (2-5) at Seattle Mariners (4-3)
    Probable Starting Pitchers:
    Anaheim - K Appier [R] (0-1, 15.75)
    Seattle - J Pineiro [R] (1-0, 4.60)

WHEN/WHERE: Wednesday April 9th 10:05 pm Eastern SafeCo

THE LINE: The Mariners are -150 and the total is 8 1/2 runs

TRENDS/ANGLES: The defending champion Angels had dropped five of their
first seven games to begin the current campaign, while
the Mariners had won four of their first seven outings.
The Angels are 0-4 on the road. Seattle is 12-8 at
Safeco Field against Anaheim since the start of the
    2001 campaign.

GAME SUMMARY: The Seattle Mariners will shoot for their third consecutive
victory this evening when they take on the Anaheim Angels
in the second of a three-game set at Safeco Field.

    SPORTS MONITOR
    PREDICTION: Angels 6 Mariners 4

    Pro Basketball:
    1 Unit on Seattle Super Sonics U 187 -110
NBA FREEBIE: MIN/SEA UNDER Seattle had their butts handed to them last night in Sacramento as the Kings did the majority of the damage in the 2nd quarter and coasted the rest of the way as did the Sonics starters. Somewhat high shooting % and low totals are the order of the day when these 2 hook up. All 3 games this year have played under and 5 of the last 6 as the century mark has been reached only 3 times combined in the 6 games. Seattle is under 11 of 14 at home revenging a road loss vs. the opponent this year.

    Baseball:
    3 Units on Kansas City Royals -140 (Affeldt - L, Bonderman - R)

Free Winners for Wednesday, April 9
    NBA BASKETBALL
    Dallas @ Phoenix
    Pick: Dallas -2.5
    Time: 10:00 PM EST

Today the National Sports Advisors look for Dallas to win and cover as -2.5 point favorites, when they matchup with the Suns in the Phoenix, AZ tonight.

The Mavericks enter tonight's game with an overall record of 57-20, including 26-12 on the road. Dallas will try to bounce back from Tuesday's 108-99 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, which dropped the Mavericks into a tie with the Spurs atop the Midwest division and in the race for the West's #1 playoff seed. Dallas is 36-41 against the spread this season.

Phoenix enters tonight's game with an overall record of 41-36, including 27-11 at home. The Suns are coming off of an impressive 98-78 blowout win at Denver, which improved their lead to 1½ games for eighth place in the West over Houston. Phoenix is 39-37-1 against the spread this season.

So why DALLAS? Well, clearly this is an important game for both teams. However, it is a little more important to Dallas, who has less wiggle room in their race for the Midwest Division title and #1 overall seed in the West. Phoenix has won five out of six and are 8-2 ATS in their last ten games overall, but we just feel the overall talent of Dallas and the sense of urgency for the Mavs will be too much for Phoenix to handle tonight.

A sweet night last night - 3-0 - lots of momentum as we head towards the end of the season (unfortunately). Three more picks for Wednesday night.

    Tonight's NBA Picks:
    Toronto +14 over Orlando
    Detroit -8 over Chicago
    San Antonio -7- over Portland

    Current NBA Records:
    Last Night: 3-0
    Total Season: 114-91-5 +$1390
    Locks: 25-21-1 +$380
    Super Locks: 3-1 +$760

    Good luck!
