Congrats, now get out:
Some reward for Astros rookie Ezequiel Astacio. He finally won in the majors, then promptly was rewarded with a trip back to the minors. Astacio (1-4) needed six starts and eight appearances to finally win in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday at Pittsburgh. He gave up 13 homers in 30 2/3 innings and nine in four starts. He was optioned to Triple A Round Rock when the game ended.
Sanders on DL: Cardinals outfielder Reggie Sanders might miss a month or more because of a broken bone in his right leg. Sanders was placed on the disabled list three days after he collided with center fielder Jim Edmonds as they chased a flyball. Tests taken Sunday showed that the 37-year-old left fielder has a hairline fracture of his right fibula that could keep him out longer than a month. Sanders was second on the Cardinals with 18 home runs, third with 44 RBI and first with 14 stolen bases in 15 attempts.
A baseball source told The Sun in Baltimore that a trade between the Orioles and the Marlins that would bring pitcher A.J. Burnett to Baltimore is almost complete. The source expected an announcement today, saying the teams have made significant progress, but a team official said it was doubtful. The trade would send Burnett, third baseman Mike Lowell and perhaps minor league outfielder Eric Reed to the Orioles for reliever Jorge Julio, outfielder Larry Bigbie and top pitching prospect Hayden Penn. The team official said talks have run "hot and cold." The Orioles' willingness to take Lowell might have pushed them ahead of the Red Sox, who are offering pitcher Bronson Arroyo and prospects.
The Yankees are desperate for pitching help with four starters on the disabled list. The Marlins designated Leiter, 39, for assignment on Thursday after he went 3-7 with a 6.64 ERA this season. He is due to make $8 million this year. Leiter won his first as a Yankee- but $8 million for a 39 year old pitcher -ugh ( I guess Fla and Yanks split it- any ideas on this ).
Nice big win yesterday on a easy game to cap. Player mentioned Astacio and a AAA rookie with a 9 1/2 run total. Geeezzzz.
Yesterday- I mentioned a favs day. Today should be more of a dog day - meaning dogs may rule in games even when it seems impossible- its very possible today for a fav team to get beat.
Great day for totals -I hope. Since we are all looking for value -lets get started.
NY Yanks/ Texas- Over
Colorado/Wash- Under
Balt/Minn -Under
St. Louis/Milw -Under
LA Dodgers/Phil- Under
Yanks and Texas are two high scoring teams in the AL.
Pitching are rookies on both squads- you do the math.
Col/ Wash- has been an under ATM machine in Wash- elsewhere generally over is the call.
Balt/Minn- agree with winning systems on this one. (Do not agree on the Houston over as stats do not back it enough)
St. Louis/Milw- Sheets will be competitive today as well. Close low scoring game.
LA Dodgers/Phil- Like this game - Both pitchers will tie up the batters.
Good Luck - Atlanta, Toronto, Minn and Boston are my plays today. Wash is my key dog.
