Friday List of 13, on golf, baseball, poker $$$
    13) In his entire golf career, a great, great career, the legendary Arnold Palmer earned $3,611,101, almost half of that on the Senior Tour.

By contrast, Joey Sindelar, who has finished above 35th on the money list just three times in 21 seasons on Tour, had earned $8,988,650 in his career, before 2005. Counting this year, he has $9,406,485.

    12) Not only is Duke basketball recruit Jon Scheyer from Illinois, his high school coach is the brother of Illinois coach Bruce Weber, so there is certain amount of tension in the hometown, over his choice to shun the Illini and attend Duke.

    11) When John Smoltz pitched in All-Star Game at Comerica, it had to irk Tiger fans who remember that they traded Smoltz to the Braves for Doyle Alexander, 18 long years ago.

    10) When Rockies shut San Diego out 1-0, Saturday, it was first-ever 1-0 game at Coors, in over 840 regular season games played there.

    9) In his last two starts, Nationals' John Patterson has allowed just two runs in 13 IP, while striking out 15 batters, getting 24 outs in air, and not one ground ball out. Better leave him home when Nats go to Colorado and Cincinnati.

    8) Last NL shortstop to homer in an All-Star Game was Dave Concepcion, 1982.

    7) Dodgers must be a fun crew to manage. Kent, Bradley, JD Drew. All pleasant guys. Now Odalis Perez speaks out and says there is too much finger pointing. Sounds like fun.

    6) Cris Collinsworth signed with NBC for 2006, when he will be a studio analyst for the Sunday night game. FOX could have kept him for this year, the last year of his contract, but they cut him loose, choosing to let Joe Buck and Troy Aikman work in 2-man booth. Good choice.

    5) Odd that Sean O'Hair had such a falling out with his controlling dad, that the two don't speak much, yet his caddy on Tour is his father-in-law. Go figure.

    4) I don't want to say Kobe Bryant is spoiled, but the Buss family just hired Kobe's dad as assistant coach with the WNBA's LA Sparks. Jellybean Joe Bryant was an NBA player, but he's not getting hired without a helping hand from his son. What Kobe wants, Kobe gets, except for any more championship rings.

    3) Maui Classic will be awesome Thanksgiving Week. First round matchups are Kansas-Arizona, Gonzaga-Maryland, UConn-Arkansas, and Michigan State-Chaminade,. 2) Some New York media has been making noise about Mr Steinbrenner being a Hall of Famer. I have two comments about this.

    a) Wasn't he convicted of a crime (illegal campaign contributions to Nixon campaign) in 70's? No Pete Rose, no George.....................and

    b) No way he gets in, if Charles O. Finley isn't in first. Who was more of an innovator, of a baseball man? Finley won five division titles and three World Series, and he was the GM, and a good one, albeit a cheap one.

    1) Of the 5,661 entrants in World Series of Poker, the top 560 get paid, with #560 getting $12,500. #561 gets a free entry into next year's event, but #562 gets bupkus. Howard Lederer made about $54,000, for finishing around 130th. Not bad for four days of work.
