Chicago Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee will undergo an MRI on Wednesday on his left shoulder, which has some inflammation and forced him out of Tuesday's game.
"It's from one swing," Lee said. "I just tweaked it a little bit and it caused some inflammation."

Lee was in obvious pain after aggravating his shoulder when he fouled a pitch off in the first inning. He struck out in the at-bat, but stayed in the game defensively until he was lifted in the third.

Lee, the top vote-getter in the National League All-Star balloting, has had some inflammation in his shoulder for nearly two weeks. He declined an invitation to participate in the Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game because of it.

Lee entered the game leading the National League in batting with a .378 average, and was second in home runs with 25 and tied for second in RBIs with 67.

"His shoulder's been bothering him on and off for a little while," Cubs manager Dusty Baker said. "He took a swing tonight and re-aggravated it again."

He will be examined Wednesday by Atlanta Braves physician Dr. Joe Chandler.

The time off at the All-Star break could benefit Lee.

"The All-Star break can benefit everyone," Lee said. "I'm sure everyone would like the time off, but sometimes you don't get it off.

"It won't be long [that he'll be out]," he said. "We'll see how it is [Wednesday]. If not, I'll take a day."

Baker said Todd Walker would start at first if Lee can't go. Walker played five games at first base last year for the Cubs.
