      13) Nationals are 22-7 in one-run games; some folks believe Washington is very shaky, since they've won so many close games this season.

      12) They used their 44th player today, in their 82nd game. They now have Carlos Baerga playing at first, with Nick Johnson hurt. Depth is an issue.

      11) Montreal Expos were 27-15 on 4th of July, oddly enough, the best record in MLB during their existence. Nationals lost Monday, so that good karma is over.

      10) NL All-Stars have three bogus starters in Beltran, Piazza and Rolen, which is one of reasons AL will be heavily favored in next Tuesday's midsummer classic.

      9) Reds' 31-50 record at midway point is their worst mark since 1934.

      8) What in God's name was Bob Melvin thinking in his game Monday? Down 4-0 in bottom of 5th inning, he had runners on first and third, two out and his pitcher up (0 for 28 for season). He didn't pinch hit!!! Has the Arizona bullpen been shreddded so badly that he was afraid to use them, down 4-0? Eeesssshhh.....

      7) By the way, I enjoy the fact that all the teams have a representative at the All-Star Game. It hurts the NL, since they have two more teams to represent, but that is life in the big city.............

      6) Parnell Dickinson was an obscure third-string QB with the '76 Buccaneers, one of the worst teams in the history of NFL. Dickinson played just one year as a Buc, but in 29 years since, no one else has worn #18 in a Tampa Bay uniform.

      5) Before buying a franchise in the AFL back in 1960, Bud Adams tried for two years to buy then-Chicago Cardinals, and move them to Houston (they soon went to St Louis, then to Arizona in mid-80's). As a result, he bought an AFL franchise and formed the Houston Oilers, moving them to Tennessee in late 90's.

      4) Not to say that Adams was hard to work for, but in Oilers' first three seasons, they won two titles, and lost the third year, in title game in OT, but still had a total of three different head coaches in those three years.

      3) Right now, #125 on the PGA Tour money list is Jesper Parnevik, with $312,035. Finishing in top 125 guarantees you a Tour card for next year, which is like hitting the lottery, with all the perks those guys get.

      2) Two golfers lead Tour, playing in 21 tournaments so far in 2005; Ted Purdy is 21st on money list, with a win and $1,519,615 in earnings. Bo Van Pelt is 48th on the money list, with $899,685. Vijay Singh, slacker that he is, has played in only 20 tournaments this year.

      1) So far this season, 41 players have earned a million dollars or more, in official earnings. Get that kid out on the driving range, I'm tellin' ya............
