      13) If Gary Sheffield hated his contract so much, why did he sign it? How would you like to have him as a teammate?

      12) It would take significant onions for a club to trade for Sheffield now. There is rumor afloat that Bronx will soon trade for Juan Encarnacion, then trade him to A's for Mark Kotsay, but given Encarnacion's lifetime .311 OB% (and season-high of .330, in years with 200+ AB's), don't expect him to be wearing green and gold too soon. After all, A's let Miguel Tejada walk because he doesn't take enough pitches.

      11) AL teams won interleague play with a 136-116 edge over the NL. I am thinking this would be a better way of determining home field in World Series than who wins the All-Star Game.

      10) This year's interleague games drew an average of 32,985, an increase of 11.5% over last year's average of 29,581.

      9) The average attendance at College World Series in Omaha was 23,952.

      8) After a lot of talk and wasted energy, Marquette decided to keep the politically correct Golden Eagles mascot it has had since dumping Warriors as mascot.

      7) In the last eleven years, eight of the 11 teams in Big Ten have won the league's football title. Please don't ask why there are eleven teams in the Big Ten.

      6) Utah Jazz have only two assistant coaches. Pistons have seven, three of whom went to school at North Caeolina, another at Kansas. Darko should have stopped over at Chapel Hill on his way from Europe.

      5) Portland has five assistant coaches, none of whom went to college farther west than Akron, which is little odd for a team from Oregon. Kevin Pritchard, interim head coach, played at Kansas.

      4) Ian Mahinmi, Spurs' first round pick, is obscure, so much so that he wasn't listed in 216-page Draft Media Guide the NBA puts out before the draft.

      3) Cleveland, Dallas and the Bulls had no draft picks this week. During the draft, Cavs traded for a 7-foot Russian guy with a very long last name, but what did scouts and coaches for Mavs and Chicago do all night?

      2) If you like to follow tennis (I don't), but discovered the espn.go.com tennis update page, which is actually quite cool, with serve speeds, a live chat, and up-to-date scores of all matches in progress. You like tennis, you'll love this.

      1) How would like to have Kenny Rogers on your fantasy team? He went 61 days between losses, was really terrific, then when he gets beat by Angels, albeit a key division loss, but still, he breaks hand punching a water cooler, then roughs up a cameraman the next day, what exactly is the thought process here?
