      13) Tim Duncan is Spurs' best player, but to me, the MVP of this great team was Ginobili; the Spurs went as he went. I am guessing after this season and the '04 Olympics, Larry Brown wishes he never was allowed to leave Argentina.

      12) Spurs' opponents were 1-22 on treys in last 2:00 of their playoff games this spring. Impressive.

      11) Lesson in team building: Spurs don't have guys on their team who aren't good people.

      10) David Robinson deserves credit, because when he came out of the Naval Academy, he could have stiffed the Spurs and gone back into the draft. He stayed, the Spurs became an excellent team, and now they are a shining example of how the NBA system works, that a smaller market team can remain a powerhouse.

      9) One thing about the NBA Championship trophy; it just doesn't have the same pizzazz as the Stanley Cup or the Lombardi Trophy. They should name the trophy after Bill Russell or Red Auerbach, not a politician like Larry O'Brien was.

      8) The most underrated record in baseball: Who holds the record for reaching base safely the most times in a row? The object of hitting is to reach base safely, after all, so who did it successfully the most times in a row? Ted Williams, who reached base 16 times in a row.

      7) The Red Sox have not played an extra inning game this season; Cleveland has played ten.

      6) Colorado Rockies are first team since '82 Twins to start a season 5-30 in their first 35 road games.

      5) Golden State Warriors won 14 of last 18 games, so interest is up in the Bay Area; even before the lockout was averted, Warriors had sold 2,000 new season tix for next season.

      4) Victor Santos of the Brewers has a 2.94 ERA in his 14 starts this season (11th in MLB), and has just 2-7 record, thanks to lousy run support. The four guys just behind him in the ERA race have a combined record of 26-16. Has a starter with a 2-7 record ever made the All-Star team?

      3) Oliver Ross started 27 games at right tackle for the Steelers the last two years, a great franchise that is in the playoff race every year. In March, he signed with Arizona for five years, a move that makes you wonder if it was made purely for financial reasons, since Cards won one playoff game in the last 58 years. Moves that are made simply for money usually wind up as flops.

      2) Chicago Black Hawks of NHL fired their coach in an odd move this week, since the guy hasn't lost game in over a year.

      1) Bob Huggins has a contract that runs through '06-'07, but the school president obviously wants him out. OJ Mayo is top-rated recruit in Class of 2007; he is from Cincinnati, and will have to go to college for one year, at least, due to the new NBA rules.
