      13) David Stern had a perfect Tuesday. NBA avoided labor strife by signing a six-year agreeement, then the Pistons forced a Game 7, which means ABC will be a lot happier, everyone except Eva Longoria.

Detroit made half their 3's, after ignoring that phase of the game in first five series games. If you invested with the Pistons (+$220) at start of series, now you can hedge and guarantee yourself a profit.

      12) MSG network showed a '73 Finals game Monday night, Knicks at Lakers. Introduction of starting lineup was done by Keith Jackson, the ABC play-by-play guy. It was very quiet when Knicks were introduced, Lakers got a standing ovation for theirs. Nothing else.

No lasers shows, fireworks or blaring music. Not a bad way to do it. Better than the circus that goes on these days, and yes, I did feel old typing that sentence.

      11) Eldrick Woods had 15 more putts than Michael Campbell at Pinehurst, but only lost by two shots.

      10) Canadian Football season starts Wednesday, with Hamilton visiting Montreal. This website will follow the CFL all summer long, on the college football page.

      9) Game 7 means one thing to me; 48 more minutes to listen to Hubie Brown. I'd love to hear Hubie work in college ranks; think he'd be more of an instructor, as opposed to listen to Dick Vitale rattle on about all the people he knows.

      8) Arizona Cardinals have sharp new white jerseys, complete with red sleeves, and altered, more serious, Cardinal logo. Good stuff.

      7) For a mere $312, you can get same plaster mask worn by Gerry Cheevers or Rogie Vachon back in the 70's. www.rivercitysports.com has all this fine stuff in their catalog or on their website.

      6) It costs $375 to play 18 holes at Pinehurst #2, unless you're a resort guest.

      5) Tampa Bay led 10-2 Tuesday night, and lost 20-11 they had an 11-7 lead entering bottom of 8th inning. I am guessing had the game not been in South Bronx, Mr Piniella may have walked back to the hotel.

      4) According to Phil from Long Beach, a leading expert on toupees, the three best hairpieces ever, in the entertainment field, belonged to Jack Klugman, Frank Sinatra and Ted Danson.

      3) These short season rookie leagues are a grind, 76 games in 80 days, smaller rosters than the big leagues. Hungry kids, all trying to claw their way to the top, hitters using wood bats for the first time, advantage pitchers. Fun to watch.

      2) Old friend Josh Colafemina began his professional career Tuesday, as his Idaho Falls Chukars won 18-4 at the Casper Rockies. Josh, who we will be following all summer, grounded out as pinch-hitter in 8th inning, then played the last two innings in the outfield.

      1) A chukar, by the way, is a bird, like a quail or pheasant, that is indigenous to the Pacific Northwest. It is not listed in the dictionary I own. Had to call the kind folks in Idaho to find out.
