      JamminJ:

The Index is the oldest and one of the most respected power rating services in existence. Still family owned and operated by a third generation of Dunkels, the Index enters data from each game into mathematical formulas that produce a ranking for each team. From these rankings Dunkel can also determine future performance with a high degree of accuracy. For years the Dunkel Index was carried in hundreds of newspapers nationwide. Dunkel was also formerly among the computer indexes used by the Bowl Championship Series (BCS).

the number in the ( ) is the estimated margin of victory for the team that is listed first. The home team has an * next to it.
It is better to have the higher rating.
