    13) Like the swallows returning to Capistrano, Tim Hudson has once again strained his oblique muscle, so the A's look smarter for having traded him, although the guys they got back have been simply awful. Meyer, the key lefty in the trade, has been out injured since April.

    12) Giants are 13-16 in games that went over total, but lost six in row when games stayed under. They don't have the pitching to win low scoring games.

    11) With Cardinals having their spring training base in Tampa area for years, will they have more fans this weekend in Tampa than the Devil Rays?

    10) Keith Foulke had a strange quote this week, when he was asked what he liked about being a closer. "The 1st and 15th of each month (paydays)" was his reply. Sounds like a great teammate.

    9) Then Jay Payton claimed that he wouldn't be getting any more playing time if even he were batting .800, because "they have their boys.", meaning management. Sounds like the innocent days of last year in Boston are a distant memory.

    8) Anaheim Ducks were sold this week for $75 million Not sure if the new owners are aware that NHL didn't play this season, and don't yet have a deal to play next year, either. Guess they'll find out eventually.

    7) Now the owners of the St Louis Blues want to sell. Might it be easier to sell team after a labor agreement has been reached? Just a question.

    6) You decide which magazine is geared more towards hard-core sports fans: ESPN Magazine has the lovely tennis star Anna Sharapova on its cover this week. Sporting News has Wyoming football coach Joe Glenn.

    5) Dan Hawkins, the football coach at Boise State, makes $525,000 a year, plus incentives. Wow.

    4) 16 I-A football coaches rake in $2,000,000+ a season. No wonder expectations are always so high.

    3) Texas at Ohio State, September 10 in Columbus. Best sporting event in September.

    2) Nebraska is playing Maine in football this season; not only is this inexcusable, but Maine won last year, at Mississippi State, so they're not even an easy win.

    1) Note to NBA Players' Association head Billy Hunter. The average salary in your union, and I said the average salary, is $4.4 million. Time to give back to the system, sir, or else risk blowing whole system up.
