I didn't play the 15* on the Braves last night, but it looks like today just might be a good day on the Braves! Picking against old Smoltzie just seems downright un-American, anyway!

              13) Last Saturday night, Tomo Ohka was removed in fourth inning of what would be a 7-3 win, but he was not respectful of Frank Robinson when he came to the mound to take Ohka out of the game. Bad move.

Not only was Ohka fined, but by next time his turn in the rotation came around, Ohka was in Milwaukee, traded for Junior Spivey. If you're scoring at home, that is traded from first place to the Brewers, and Nats had won Ohka's last five starts. Point made.

              12) Nitwit New York City frontrunners are at it again, questioning whether it is time for Joe Torre to be fired by Bronx. I don't confuse Torre with Miller Huggins or Sparky Anderson, but he has won four world titles in last nine years. He better have some job security.

              11) When Dodgers brought Sandy Koufax to the big leagues in 1955, they sent down another lefthanded pitcher you might have heard of: Tommy Lasorda.

              10) Tom Grieve, former GM of Rangers, is best color commentator on local baseball telecasts; he is not afraid to state opinions, and he knows his stuff.

              9) Nothing against the Pistons, but NBA, basketball in general, needs Spurs to win the NBA finals. Coaches imitate whomever the champs are, and we don't need to see more 84-69 games; the sport needs lot more 114-99 games.

              8) It looks as if August will be the NBA's month for a labor showdown, as the owners try and get some things back from players. After the beating NHLPA took in their labor struggle, players had better realize that they lose the most, if there is a work stoppage.

              7) It says a lot about today's culture that Tim Duncan's jersey is 11th in sales, according to NBA marketing people. Best player on best team, but selfless and not flashy; it doesn't sell. Sad.

              6) The solid chemistry the Spurs have, with guys from so many different countries, points out another fact: American players are a lot more difficult to deal with than foreigners.

              5) If Timberwolves sign PJ Carlesimo as head coach, it is a not-too-subtle message to free agent Latrell Sprewell: "Hit the road, Jack".

              4) World Series of Poker tournaments are underway in Vegas, and record turnouts are being reported for early events. One tournament had prize money of over $3M. The Main Event, the $10,000 buy-in, starts in about three weeks.

              3) Looking through the prize lists for these early tournaments, you see ton of names you've never heard of- this isn't like golf and tennis, where same few people are always going to compete at the top. People are going to come out of nowhere and become rich, which makes it appealing to the masses who might want to participate.

              2) Was looking through NFL stuff yesterday, and saw that Rick Mirer is still in NFL, with Lions. How is this possible? Has he ever been good?

              1) I see where the Knicks aren't going to hire a coach before the NBA Draft; maybe they just don't want to pay someone, in case there is a lockout, but how can you go through the draft without a coach? Is it any wonder this team hasn't won a title in 32 years?
