        13) Angels' first pick in baseball draft is Trevor Bell, grandson of the man who played Bozo the Clown on TV for 14 years. The kid has already been in 20 or so TV commercials.

        12) Young Bell grew up an Angels' fan and was born the day Dave Henderson homered in Game 5 of '86 playoffs off of Donnie Moore, when Angels were one out away from the AL pennant. A bad omen?

        11) Our congratulations and best wishes to old friend Josh Colafemina, who was drafted by the Royals, and is expecting to report to Idaho Falls in Pioneer League next week. Always a dedicated baseball guy, we wish him our best, and we'll be following his progress thru the summer, as he begins his pro career.

        10) Royals drafted at least seven players from this part of the country (northeast), which seems like a lot.

        9) Fact of the matter for Bronx is that Joe Torre isn't surrounded by great coaches, so when players go into a slump, and all players do, their inexperienced staff is not well-prepared to shake them out of it. Think about it; other than Stottlemyre, an excellent pitching coach (but both he and Torre have battled cancer), Girardi is a rookie, Sojo is too, Mattingly is new to coaching. Lord only knows what Roy White actually does. Not exactly the greatest coaching staff of all time.

        8) Want to win a bet? Architect Eero Saarinen is the man who designed St Louis' Gateway Arch.

        7) Surprising stat: entering this week, Colorado hurlers had a 5.61 ERA at Coors, 5.87 on road. Usually, you would think the opposite would be true.

        6) Aruba's economy is based on tourism, so you can bet that arrests will be made, prosecution will be fast, and publicized often, so the case of missing Alabama teenager does not become a national disaster. We are praying for her safe recovery, of course, but right now things look a little bleak for her family.

        5) Expect a lot of turnover in the Dolphin organization until Nick Saban gets things just way he wants them to be; he had lot of turnover on his staff at Michigan St and LSU, but he did win national title in Baton Rouge.

        4) Jim Haslett has simplified, shortened the playbook in New Orleans, to try and help Brooks, his QB, upon whose shoulders lie Haslett's job security.

        3) How strange will it be to see Jerry Rice wearing the number 19 for Denver this coming season?

        2) Writers were bitching endlessly about Super Bowl being in Jacksonville last winter; what are they going to say this season, when it is in Detroit? In February!!!!

        1) If you don't think this is a great country, the land of opportunity, check this out: Bill Parcells, a 64-year old grumpy overweight guy, has a girlfriend who will be 36 next week. Only in America.
