What would be the reasoning behind taking two somewhat big favorites in a parlay? For example, the mets were -180 and the marlins were -160. Can someone tell me what sense it would make to parlay those two teams together? I don't normally play pars with regards to baseball, and I'm trying to understand the rationale for playing a parlay like that.

Question about baseball parlays

you lose the mets game you are down 1.8 units already. You tie in a parlay and lose, you limit your exposure to risk...meaning instead of being down 1.8, you would be down 1. If it wins you would be up 1.55 or something like that. Parlays in any sport are tough to win, however, if you really like two heavy favorites, you lesson your exposure to risk. I hope this helps.

But I guess my point is, if you really like them both, then don't you at least expect to split the two games? If so, then you are actually losing more by going with the par as oppossed to betting them straight up. And if you hit both, then you actually win less with the par, correct?Last edited by MB17; 06-07-2005, 11:11 PM.

Yes, but again, it is exposure to risk. You lose money anyway, it is just a way to lesson the blow. Lets say you really like a game at -325. You lose it, you lose 3 plus units. Parlay it with another game, you lesson the loss to one unit. Games under -200 really do not need to be parlayed in my opinion. However, Wayne does very well with his parlays, making to mid-range favorites paying out at +150. Again, it is all comfort level....

I think
what you could look at is the Risk vs. Reward "ratio"!
In this case.....play them both straight up on a dollar bet and win Mets....lose Marlins: = 340 Risk for only 200 return if both win....however Marlins lose so...result = -160
vice versa Mars win Mets lose.....worse yet = -180
Parlay the two and risk only the 100 for +155 approx if both win.....+155 with a PLUS r/r ratio. Bottom line you are risking on the plus side vs TWO negative sides. One unit VS almost THREE AND A HALF UNITS.
A split assures you of a huge loss....books dream.
You may be better served to play the two teams on the alternate run line at -1 each which would be very small juice and lower the r/r ration. play them each for a 1/3 unit straight up on the R/L and parlay the two for other 1/3 unit. Team wins by a run and its a push and ZERO units lost. With the parlay...it wins at half the value anyway if both teams win and one only by a lone run.
Hope this helps a little....GvI am NOT schizophrenic......and NEITHER am I! Just paranoid that fear may overcome my insanity!

I am not sure of the reasons you dont post regularly, but I think I speak for a lot of members when I say I wish YOU WOULD post more often...you are a force to be reckoned with and I have learned a lot from you in sports wagering...please come back and stay!!Everybody dies, but not everyone lives.

I like them in baseball b/c if you take 2 big favs, instead of laying 100 to win 50 and 90 to win 50, you lay 100 just once to win more than 100.
There is half the risk, more payout, you just have to win both.
The problem betting 2 big favs is that if you split, you lose your ass.
