How can the first place Marlins be a dog at home? When they're 17-10 at home? When they're going with a hot pitcher in Brian Moehler? Answer: when Pedro Martinez pitches for the other team. While Pedro is 4-1, the Mets are only 5-4 in his starts and his ERA this year, 3.14, is not what it's been in the past. Moehler's ERA is a full point lower. The Mets, by the way are a rotten 8-15 on the road. I would have made this my first 2* play of the year except for the fact that the Marlins bullpen has been torched lately.
1* Blue Jays +150
Another case of a hyped pitcher being overbet. But Johan Santana is not the guy he was last year. His ERA of 3.82 is average, not dominating. Toronto counters with Towers, who has an almost identical ERA and has a record of 5-2. Blue Jays have won 3 in a row and 7 of the last 10. This is a very juicy price for this situation.
As always, remember that with dogs if you go 1-1 you still make money.
