Pistons (1-0) @ Heat-- NBA needs Heat to win here, or else they could be looking at two very short semifinal round series. Game 1 had total of just 18 turnovers and 22 foul shots, so very clean game. Miami needs to get to line more, needs Wade to shoot better than 7 for 25 and needs to make more than four treys. That was their first loss in nine postseason games; will be interesting to see how they rebound from it. Pistons are champs, and win here makes things very dicey for the team in red/white.

Defending NBA champs are 12-5 in series vs top seeds the next season.

          13) When 76ers fired Jim O'Brien after just one year, it seemed unfair, but consider this: O'Brien will cash in $8M worth of checks over the next three years, even if he never gets off his couch.

          12) Makes you wonder how owners can cry poor in labor negotiations when they eat fat contracts like that, and don't even blink an eye.

          11) The Draft Lottery is always good for comedy, and Jeannie Buss provided some, when she revealed that she had "a lucky rock my boyfriend Phil gave me" to help the Lakers move up in the lottery. She also said she hoped boyfriend Phil (Jackson) would give her another kind of rock, as in engagement ring, but looks like she was 0-2 for the evening.

          10) Have to like the NBA Final Four; other than evil Larry Brown's presence, there are three likeable clubs still playing, and some small market teams, too.

          9) I am curious to see how ESPN treats next month's World Series of Poker festival, which goes into July; things get underway next week. I think they could pull in some decent ratings with a nightly wrapup show.

          8) New Orleans Saints have sold only 26,000 season tickets, and have an out clause after this season, if the owner coughs up $81 million; the rumor mill has them considering both San Antonio and LA. Benson says that he will never sell, however, because he wants his adopted granddaughter to inherit the club. They could still move the club, though.

          7) Rams and 49ers, longtime rivals, play in Week One this year, only the second time that has happened, with first time back in 1955.

Now, some trivia about active big league managers:
          6) 27 of the 30 managers that started this season (we used Tony Pena for Royals) played in bigs; Showalter, McKeon and Dave Miley of the Reds did not.

          5) 17 of the 30 current managers have managed in at least one postseason series.

          4) 20 of the 30 managers also managed in the minor leagues, with Scioscia and Mazzilli managing just one season in minors.

          3) 16 of the 27 skippers who played in big leagues played 10+ years; 12 of 27 played 13+ seasons.

          2) Ten managers also caught as major leaguers. None of the 27 were major league pitchers.

          1) Of the 27 skippers who played in major leagues, only one who didn;t hit a home run was Tony Larussa who played in 132 games over six seasons.
