Pistons @ Heat-- As fun as the Suns are to watch, East finals will be grind-it-out ball; key to series, obviously, is health of Shaq, who practiced Saturday, then took it bit easier Sunday. Average total on three series games this season was 158 with Miami winning last two meetings- the only Detroit win was by single point, 78-77. All three games stayed under total. Have to give Pistons credit as defending champs, but Miami is 8-0 in the playoffs in '05

            13) 10 of the 30 major league teams aren't scheduled next Monday, Memorial Day. Isn't baseball a staple of our national holidays? What are these people thinking?

            12) Arizona committed larceny when it traded Randy Johnson to Bronx for Vazquez and Halsey.

            11) The guy who does studio updates during Red Sox games on NESN was the actor who hit the home run in Bull Durham, when Crash Davis told him the pitch that was coming. It took him four takes to hit ball out.

            10) There are 212 teams signed up this weekend for my favorite AAU basketball tournament, the Gym Rat Challenge, here in Albany. It is best run event of spring and a pleasure to attend. We will be reporting all next weekend, on seeing teams from as far away as South Carolina, Texas, Wisconsin and Kentucky.

            9) Not only are 212 teams already signed up for the Gym Rat, there are 97 teams on a waiting list to play in the three age groups.

            8) At $410 a team, do the math; there is major money to be made in organizing AAU events, and this event is the best run of any, other than the national tournament.

            7) Did you see Dirk Nowitzki chew out Jason Terry at midcourt, after Terry never put a hand up to defend a tying 3-pointer by Steve Nash? Friday night's loss by the Mavericks may be tough to recover from; once the star player starts verbally thrashing his teammates, the chemistry tends to suffer.

            6) San Antonio, Phoenix in west, two smaller markets, and Detroit in the East with Miami. This is final four in the NBA. Baseball should be observant and see how a salary cap makes the game a lot more healthy.

            5) If you're middle infielders aren't dependable fielders you can't be a good baseball team.

            4) Eldrick Woods (7-2) is early favorite for US Open next month at Pinehurst, NC. Mickelson (5-1), Ernie Els (6-1) and Singh (7-1) are next three favorites.

            3) The classic movie Animal House was filmed out at the University of Oregon, in Eugene.

            2) Animal House co-writer Harold Ramis once used a review of the movie to secure a home loan.

            1) There is some version of poker being shown on 12 different television networks
