  • Opinion Question of the NBA

This question requires only a simple yes or no answer, but you can expand your opinion if you like.
We just saw a $100000 fine levied against Van Gundy because the David Stern didn't like the implication that referees were being told to favor certain players.
My question is do you think in the NBA and especially in the playoffs David Stern has directly or indirectly given instructions to officials to officiate games in such a way as to try to keep them close or for that matter ensure that certain teams win for tv ratings, revenues, etc.
I vote a resounding YES;I don't care how Stern comes across on tv;there is something about him which makes me very suspicious.
I would even go so far as to say that on some occasions, games are called a certain way for gambling interests!

I was just discussing this very thing tonight with a buddy and I agree that they do to a certain degree, the refs are told to lean calls toward weak teams as much as they feel they can get away with. You can pracatically call a foul on every play.

The NBA loses Millions of dollars when a team sweeps another in lost revenue for games 5 and 6 and 7.
I'm 5-11" or 6-2" depending on which convenience store I'm coming out of.

Hey Stern why don't you go suspend yourself for the season like you did to Artest for the "heinous" act of going up into the stands to defend himself.

I agree that every time I see that guy in an interview or on TV he looks VERY suspicious, so that's why I vote yes. However, I am still naive and can't see this happening too often or even giving specific instructions...just conveying a point in some "small talk" with the officials.

                      Is

IT JUST ME.........OR DO ALL NBA OFFICIAL HAVE UNIFORMS THAT REPRESENT THE OLD "ALL STAR WRESTLING" FEDERATION with Vern Gange and Mad Dog Vachon or Cowboy Bill Watts or the Beer Barrel Brother from Milwaukee!

The NBA GIVES THEM PUKE gray uniforms with tiny meaningless numbers and all they do is what VEGAS TELLS STERNS TO DO who tells THEM what to do!! Pure SOAP OPERA GARBAGE. THEY AND THE LEAGUE ARE A DISGRACE AND A TOTAL JOKE IF THEY BELIEVE IT IS A SERIOUS ATTEMPT TO REPRESENT SOMETHING "Professional"!!

STERNS IS THE BIGGEST GAYEST PUPPET WAGGER the boys from LV have ever owned!!! And they have owned them all!! This one is just more obvious than the rest!

DON'T FOOL YOURSELF FOR ONE SECOND that this is a sport. It is a loaded craps game that favors the house. THE ONLY SPORT MORE LOADED TO THE HOUSE is the NFL as they MAKE LIGHT YEARS MORE FROM IT IN A WEEKEND THEN this pretend sport called the NBLAHA!

                      Oh yeah.....I vote Yes....Gv

Yes without a doubt...... Its in everyone's best interest (those that profit) to not have a sweep and make these games competitive it keeps the Arena's sold out ,,it keeps the ad dollars at a higher premium ..and it keeps revenue coming into the books ...I also think the coaches are involved by sitting players that may not have to be sat out...

Goldvike-Very well put and obviously I agree.
I think all of the suspensions and fines he levies are ploys to try to divert attention from himself, the refs and questionable officiating over to discussions of the justness of the fines and suspensions themselves.
As you say Stern rules, and Vegas rules Stern.
Obviously also as Blaze says, big money, tv revenue, etc. are also part of this "pro wrestling" sport and dictate to how the games are called especially come playoff time.

This might not help out much just wanted to give a little insight on the referee situation. I am a High School Referee "i know no big deal " but i have called the high School championship in Georgia 2 yrs straight. It is so esay For us as officials to keep a game close. I have never cheated and am very honest with my calls. But in the case of a team being up 49-7 at the half i can control the second half scoring. yes it will not effect the game but it will keep the score somewhat respectable. So i agree 100% yes an official can influence the game. In football and Basketball The most. Almost a foul or penalty on every play or posession. I know there is a big difference in my job as a part time Referee compared to a professional but in my opinion they have more to lose on the outcome of the game than i do. Hope this helps.

                              Probably

One of the most used ploys for point spreads by Vegas that they use as manipulators are two fold that most do not think of:

                              1) The Trainer/Doc
Best way on a "game time decision" or "freak practice injury" (not to exceed a game or two) prior to a game to take a name player out and hence his 20+ points or 10+ rebs a game. OOOPPSS.....LINE SUDDENLY MOVED BEFORE TIP TIME

                              2) Coachs Game Plans and/or "Punsihment") sitting down players for "disiplinary reasons or team rule violation" OR BETTER YET........PULLING A GAME PLAN OUT that is totally contrary to their current winning style of play. Like having the Pacers go to run and gun......or the Kings play stall ball.......either and/or both to cover totals and sides. How about NOwitski getting benched this year for NOT PLAYING DEFENSE! THAT WORKED!!
I am NOT schizophrenic......and NEITHER am I! Just paranoid that fear may overcome my insanity!
