    13) No one uses cash anymore. Debit cards, credit cards, people have to sign before they buy anything. Why don't people use cash anymore?

    12) Darko lives!!!! The evil Larry Brown, after couple years of holding Darko Milicic hostage on the Pistons' bench, started the young lad Tuesday, and he scored 16 points in 30 minutes, making 7 of 11 shots. Amen.

    11) CNNSI.com posted a picture of Utah QB Smith backwards on its homepage Tuesday, so he appeared to throw lefthanded. The "U" on his helmet and 11 on his jersey didn't give it up, either.

    10) Wonder who NBC will choose for announcers on their NFL broadcasts. Please Lord in heaven, anyone but the hideous Pat Haden as color commentator. If so, thats 51 hours of mute button/music in my house.

    9) Game 1 of last year's NBA Finals had 15.4 million viewers; the North Carolina-Illinois NCAA title game had 22.9M viewers, the pre-game show 14.6M.

    8) Next month, here in America's second-favorite city, is something called the Tulip Festival, which celebrates the Dutch heritage here in upstate New York. Tulips, dammit, that is what my hometown is known for!!!!!

By the way, it is the 57th Tulip Festival, with the Funk Brothers and Little Anthony and the Imperials as the entertainment. Bigtime fun here in Albany, and hey, Carrot Top was here earlier this week.........

    7) June 8-12, the Saratoga National Celebrity Classic golf tournament will be held, part of the tour that has Dan Marino, Mario Lemieux, Mike Schmidt, Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley as participants. Not sure who is coming to Saratoga, but we'll keep you posted.

    6) Reyes and Diaz went yard for the Mets Tuesday as two Mets had pair of homers in same game for first time since September, '97 (Gilkey, Huskey).

    5) Sandy Alderson was tough on umpires while he did his time working for Major League Baseball; wonder if there will be a backlash against the Padres, now that Alderson, a Harvard guy, is new CEO in San Diego.

4)once heard a dad say this to his 12-year old son....."It is your job to lead your team to the championship this season." That was it, a simple, declarative sentence, that put so much pressure on the kid, his team wound up losing.

There has to be joy in winning, and I think that is part of the problem the Bronx baseball team has; they are expected to win, so there isn't much joy coming with it and I think that is a hard way to win a championship.

    3) Don't mistake that last entry as sympathy, though.

    2) Will TNT put Kobe on air as an analyst during the playoffs? And if they do, will other general managers around the league clamor for equal time?

    1) Sam Mills was the epitome of everything that sports is supposed to be. He was too short, too this, too that but there is no yardstick that measures the heart. Mills used the USFL as his stepping stone to the NFL, and what a player he was, for the Saints and Panthers.
