    Game of the Day
76ers @ Nets-- Nets won four of last five and 12 of last 16 games, in bid to make playoffs; they're only one game behind Cavaliers and two behind 76ers, so this is a huge game. Iverson is carrying Philly, putting up sick numbers; they've won six of last seven games, including three wins in row on the road.

Keep in mind, regular season ends Wednesday. For 16 playoff teams, that all starts next weekend; the rest of the clubs will be packing their bags and heading out as soon as their last game is over. Some teams quit long time ago these are not the best games to invest in.

Elsewhere, Bobcats lost at home to Knicks yesterday, as C Brezec missed game (ankle); Charlotte is 4-2-1 vs spread in last seven games, 5-2 in last seven on the road. Wizards scored 107.7 ppg in winning last three games, with five of their last seven going over the total.

Indiana won eight of last ten games with seven of its last eight staying under total; they beat Miami 114-108 in OT at home 18 days ago. Heat lost four in row, with four of last five staying under the total Think Miami will take this game fairly seriously and will want to end their losing streak, even if it doesn't matter

Cavs are 6-9 since changing coaches, 9-18 in their last 27 games, as they try to hang onto last playoff spot, but going to Detroit (nine wins in row, 7-1-1 vs the spread) not way to do it. Cavs drilled Pistons 91-76 in Cleveland last time teams met.

Seattle ended six-game losing streak when it drilled NO Friday; they're 1-8 vs spread in last nine games, 1-7 in last eight road games. Sonics are 2-1 vs Minnesota this season, winning 103-92 in first visit here. Wolves won 9 of last 12 games, with five of last six going over the total.

Player/GM Kobe missed Friday loss (personal reasons) to Kings, Lakers' 14th loss in last 16 games; will he play vs Dallas team that has won six games in row and 14 of last 16 (with four of last five staying under total)? Dallas is 7-2 in its last nine road games.

Toronto usually plays one good half, one bad, which is why they're 3-7 in last ten games- they were up 14 at the half vs Nets Friday, lost by 11. Last three Raptor games stayed under total. Boston won three in row, five of last six, with four of last five staying under the total.

Knicks won three of last four games after its nine-game skid ended; they beat Hawks 106-92 last month on road Atlanta is an awful team, winning once in last five weeks, twice in last 68 days. Six of last eight Hawk games went over the total.

Portland is 3-23 in its last 26 games and they're favored, vs Jazz squad that is 3-7 in last ten games. Blazers' last 4 games all stayed under total. Jazz beat Portland 90-79 at home 12 days ago. Blazers are 5-12 vs spread in last 17 home games.

      13) Mark Buehrle has lasted 6+ innings in his last 35 starts; his game Saturday lasted a crisp 1:39.

      12) It is a long season, for sure, and no one in Bronx should press panic button yet, but I am pretty sure lot more people today know where the panic button is, as opposed to before they lost seven of last nine games.

      11) The Padres uniforms are just plain ugly.

      10) If I had to call NBA teams out for going in tank, I would look at New Orleans and Orlando. Atlanta has such a bad team, they just can't compete, even though they've given a decent effort all season.

      9) Would it kill the Clippers to get a real point guard, or do they think Livingston will fill the bill? The young fella has looked spectacular at times, when healthy.

      8) At $13.70, the average ticket to a Devil Ray game is the cheapest in the major leagues.

      7) St Louis Cardinals have one off day in August.

      6) If I ran an NFL team, not sure if it would be wise to have lot of Miami players; they're usually talented and used to winning, but they seem to be slow to buy into the sense of team, when they go professional.

      5) Looks like Twins might finally get a new ballpark, just as it looks like Glen Taylor will buy Vikings and keep them in Twin Cities. Now, all Taylor has to do is rid his basketball team of Sprewell and Cassell.

      4) Good luck to Bruce Pearl at Tennessee; the coach in Knoxville before Buzz Peterson was Jerry Green, who led Vols to four NCAA's in row, and still got the ziggy. Tough place to coach; stupid high expectations.

      3) Kirk Reuter might be in trouble this season, he can't go deep into games, as he gets older. So far, bullpen has allowed 12 runs in seven IP behind Rueter.

      2) In the season's second week, reliever Steve Kline of the Orioles, who signed with Baltimore over winter as a free agent, expressed regret over leaving St Louis Nothing like ingratiating yourself to your new team.

      1) Dodgers scored 27 runs in their first three games vs lefthanded starting pitchers. Even without names on the backs of their uniform.
