That's what one would think. Historically, it is not necessarily true.

Since 1995 after game 78 favorites are 46.2%

More interestly favorites with a win% greater than .600 cover only 44.3%. Aside for playoff seeding these teams don't have anything to play for. They probably rest many of their starters.

However, teams fighting for what might be their playoff lives do well Teams with a win% of .500 to .600 cover 58.2% of their games.

Detroit, Miami, and Dallas were all .600 teams and lost ATS as favorites.

DO you have any stats on buying 1/2 points, full points or 1 1/2 points in the NBA. What is your opinion? Know VSS always recommends buying minimum half point and sometimes full or 1 point or 1 1/2. I often buy 1/2 to one and am starting to think it is a waste of juice when losing. Sometimes at Pinnacle it is not very costly though. Just asking your opinion. thx.

The only time I buy points in the NBA is when Pinnacle has a game -3.5 -102. I'll buy to -3 -110. If I can buy a 1/2 point and still lay -110 or less I'll do it. I NEVER buy a 1/2 point off the full point, -3 down to -2.5. I'm satisfied with the push. I never buy the 1/2 point and lay -120. It is beyond my comprehension why anyone would buy a full point and lay -130. There's so much scoring in the NBA.

In the last 10 years my analysis has shown for the favorites buy the 1/2 point off -2.5, -3.5, -10.5.

With Dogs the only line buying is +7.5 to +8.

Blindly buying 1/2 point on all games is suicide.

Some bettors simply have a difficult time accepting loses. Many bettors have extreme difficulty with 1/2 point losses. What's the difference if you lose the bet by 1/2 point or 10 points? Most of the time, I don't mind the 1/2 point losses. In those cases I knew I was on the right side. An extra FT made would have been the difference. We all have good (lucky) wins and tough beats. Learn to accept the tough beats. You'll become a better capper.

                  Buying Points

Thanks Frank. I have been buying halves with Pinnacle most NBA plays. Your assessment sounds right.
