    Game of the Day
Pistons @ Heat-- Likely Eastern Conference final will be these two; Heat split last eight games, as Shaq has been ill. Nine of last 13 Miami games stayed under the total. Teams split pair of meetings in Detroit earlier this season. Pistons won, covered last five games, scoring 110.7 ppg in last three, all of which went over total, but first two games vs Heat were 78-77, 89-78.

Elsewhere, Knicks have not won, covered in their last 9 games, with three of last four going over; they just lost at home to Indiana 97-79 Tuesday. Well-coached Pacers won last six games (5-1 vs spread), with last four games staying under the total (Indy allowing 78.8 ppg).

Lakers ended five-game loss streak with win at Seattle Friday (Lewis didn't play for Sonics). Nine of last twelve Laker games went over total, as have six of last seven Sacramento games. Home side lost first two in season series. Kings 0-6 vs spread in game following their last six victories.

Portland lost last seven games, but covered four of last five; they lost first two meetings vs Hornets by 6,11 pts; hey, its not easy to go 0-2 vs Hornets. New Orleans lost 16 of its last 23 games, with last five staying under total.

Trap game for Grizzlies, who won four of last five games (under 5-0) and beat Miami last time out; they won by 20 at Charlotte in first meeting, 109-89, Jan 14. Bobcats lost seven in row (1-3-1 vs spread in last five); five of its last six games stayed under the total.

Spurs won amazing double OT game at Staples last night with Ginobili getting 40 points, 9 assists; they run into the buzzsaw here that is the Warriors, winners of eight in a row (10-2 vs spread in last 12), with eight of their last 9 games going over total, as Baron Davis has gone off.

      13) They showed stat on CBS, when Eldrick Woods shoots 140 or better in first two rounds of Masters, he wins; when he doesn't, he loses. He fell right on 140 in first two rounds this weekend.

      12) If you placed Golden State Warriors in Eastern Conference playoffs and started them today, Warriors would be in Finals, but they won't even make playoffs in west. Chris Mullin doing nice rebuilding job.

      11) Nothing is easier on the ears than an extra-inning game with Vin Scully on the mike, even if the bullpens in the NL West are beyond repair already.

      10) Both Itzuris brothers hit triples to leftcenter in their games Saturday. Wonder if brothers have ever tripled on same before on same day? it's not that easy to do. The younger Itzuris is sub for Angels; boy, can he fly.

      9) Bruce Chen is first big league player in over century to play for eight big league team before the age of 28.

      8) Dodger road uniforms look odd, with no names on the back. Road uniforms should have names on them.

      7) If I was a good enough golfer to be under par in the third round of the Masters, I sure as hell wouldn't be an amateur. That's how many good golfers there are- kids in college are getting free education, honing their games for the pro tour at same time.

      6) Clippers played their fifth multiple OT game of the season last night. If they had quality point guard, they'd be pretty darn good team.

      5) Robert Horry was up to his old tricks last night, as he hit fallway 3 for the Spurs' lead, then blocked shot to seal win in final five seconds of second overtime.

      4) Spurs' coach Gregg Popovich is 1970 graduate of the Air Force Academy. He was head coach at D-III level, leading the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens to NCAA's back in 1986.

      3) Pacers' coach Rick Carlisle played his first couple of seasons in college at Maine, then transferred for two years to Virginia, where he played in the '84 Final Four, with Ralph Sampson as a teammate.

      2) Kudos to University of Denver, who won second NCAA hockey crown in row Saturday, beating North Dakota 4-1.

      1) Speaking of hockey, while the labor goofiness goes on and on, there are NHL people thinking of radical ways to change the game, when it returns. Looks like there might even be a bigger net, 13% bigger, which is a plan designed by people with Buffalo Sabres. They really think the game needs more scoring, and with the goalies getting bigger, they think net needs to be, too.
