      13) Derek Jeter is a terrific player, no doubt, but I am tired of hearing what "a winner" he is. Let him go play for the Brewers, get them in playoffs, then we'll talk.

      12) One of the more interesting ways to invest on the action in major league baseball is an over/under play on the total amount of runs scored each night. If you take Wednesday's games, the line was 146 for all 15 games; a total of 147 runs was scored for the night.

      11) Mariano Rivera has blown five saves in row vs the Red Sox, but how does any Bronx fan boo this guy? All he has done is help them win four World Series, so now he is going through rough stretch. How about a little support? Is loyalty totally a thing of the past?

      10) At 0-3, Willie Randolph is learning that life in the first chair, with a franchise that has gotten used to bad baseball, is not as easy as waving runners home while coaching for a team with a $200 million payroll. Thus far, he has done to indicate he is anything special as a skipper, but it still is just three games.

      9) Michael Young of Texas is as tough an out as any hitter in the American League.

      8) PGA Tour has now been plagued by rain four wks in row; no wonder Jesper Parnevik left his golf clubs home when he flew to Augusta.

      7) Parnevik called in a favor to retrieve the clubs, as Eldrick Woods, who married Parnevik's former nanny retrieved the clubs and brought them to Augusta.

      6) Kris Benson makes $7 million a year, despite his career record of 47-53; he was 21-26 his first couple years in bigs, then sat out 2001 with an injury, and has not thrown more than 132 innings in season since. He is on DL now for fourth time in his career. Looks like the Mets may have kicked away some good money.

      5) NCAA tournament on CBS was beset by ads for the TV move, Locusts; I am guessing golf fans do not have to worry about such a thing this weekend.

      4) Jerry Coleman, longtime Padre announcer, did the San Diego home opener Thursday night in a tuxedo.

      3) Coleman, by the way, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this summer, the broadcasting wing.

      2) Congress may extend Daylight Savings Time by a couple months, starting in March, ending in November They'll get no argument from me.

      1) Want to invest on a longshot to be elected Pope? Try Giacomo Cardinal Biffi of Bologna, Italy, a 20-1 longshot who, at 77, might be a tad old for position, but he does have an excellent last name.
