Baylor beat Texas Tech 74-68 last Saturday in Waco and I suspect this 7-point spread has more to do with Bobby Knight than anything else. The Red Raiders were nothing short of “gloom and doom” down the stretch. Following an amazing 2nd half at Oklahoma State, Texas Tech ended the season with three straight defeats. They were 5-8 SU in their last 13 games. Baylor won at Oklahoma State and Kansas State in back-to-back Big 12 road games in the middle of February. Texas Tech is 1-8 ATS in March the last three years and how many games has Bobby Knight won this month the past decade? Since 1997, the Red Raiders are 0-7 ATS on the road off an upset loss as a favorite. They are also 2-8 ATS when playing on a neutral court. In their last two games, Texas Tech is 49-of-121 from the floor and have been out-rebounded by eight boards. This isn’t what 7-point favorites are supposed to be made of. It doesn’t take much for me to go against Coach Knight in March these days, although I really appreciate his attitude with the media.
