Interesting game tonight in the NIT. Miami and SC struggled to end the season landing them in the NIT where they'll face off. South Carolina was playing very well until the fell flat on their face against Mississippi in the SEC tourney. They are a good home team going 13-3 at home, but they are .500 against the number. Miami, even when they have lost, have kept games close. Miami is 8-0 ATS (+8.0 Units) in road games after scoring 65 points or less 2 straight games since 1997. The average score was Miami 74.4, Opp. 63.8 - (Rating = 2*). Miami has more talent here, and SC fans will be only mildly fired up for this one. Two small units on the Canes plus the points here.

3* Alabama A&M +6 1/2
I can’t figure out how Vegas substantiate Oakland as a 6 ½-point favorite tonight. Many call the NCAA Tournament the greatest event in all of sports. I would agree with that once we reach the field of 32. Nobody yet has given me a legitimate argument why teams like Oakland, Alabama A&M, Farleigh Dickinson, Montana, Delaware State, etc are in this. I have suggested for years that the conferences that aren’t lined play their own tournament just like Division II and Division III in college football. I mean take a look at the resume Oakland brings to the tournament tonight. I won’t bother talking about their conference, as you’ve never heard of it anyway. But out of conference we spot a defense that allowed 95 to Marquette; a 29-point loss to Akron allowing 81 points; a 31-point loss to Illinois; and finally my favorite: a league home defeat to the Leathernecks of Western Illinois. Oakland was 12-18 this year. I don’t know how anybody can appreciate this team being in the field while clubs like Miami of Florida, Virginia Tech, Indiana, Clemson and Memphis are all in the NIT. Memphis is a 13 ½-point favorite in their opener of the NIT. Doesn’t that alone suggest they should be in the dance? Nevertheless, let’s deal with the cards we are dealt. At least Alabama A&M has the conference player of the year (both offensive and defensive) in Obie Trotter (great name in sports). The Alabama A&M coach, Vann Pettaway, is fighting cancer and will begin radiation treatments immediately after the tournament. Both of these teams played Texas A&M this year. Alabama A&M lost to the Aggies by three points in College Station. Oakland lost on the same floor by 18 points. While these two teams both average 70 points a game, the Bulldogs of A&M allow six points fewer per contest. I don’t mind grabbing the points here and oppose a team that was 7-18 on February 25th before posting five very unlikely wins.
