Michigan is 1-12 SU last 13, whereas northwestern is 6-7, and the game opened up NW as -2.5 favs, on a neutral court.
While doing some reading, I came across these quotes:
NW coach Bill Carmody--"Michigan has beaten us on their home court this season, we have beaten them on our home court, and now we are playing each other on a neutral court, And the prize for winning this game is that you get to play the No. 1 team in the country, coming off a loss. So there you go."
You can sense the tone in that quote...the whole article just felt like the team was ready to lose. They are also concerned about front-court matchups. It seemed to me that they are dwelling on lost opportunities that occurred during the season.
Here is a quote from a Michigan player: "It could be a steppingstone for our preparation going into next year," junior Sherrod Harrell said. "You end the year on a good note hopefully. This would be a great one."
There is a much more positive tone in this article. The wolverines are obviously looking at this game as the beginning of a new season and want to salvage anything positive from a downright shitty season. After his press conference, U of M coach Tommy Amaker was actually asking reporters who their dark horse was, and when nobody said Michigan he responded that "crazier things have happened."
I believe this is a classic case of opposite motivations. The stats can only tell so much. I wanted to put this info out their for informational purposes. Do with it what you will. Tomorrow I am going to see how the line moves, who the publics on, and most likely bet michigan.
