  • Heads Up-internet Poker

any of you guys know me a while-know ive been playing poker for life-my best gamble-anyway if youve played the net awhile you know you have to overcome groups of players-playing team poker-i cannot overemphasize how strong this is to beginners-goes on in casinos also-but easier to get away with on net-now they have programs where you can see everyones cards at the table for less than a dime-so if your going to play net poker-stick to the smaller limits and the small tournaments-lots of the 30 buy-ins have 5 dime 1st prizes-you will have to overcome about a 1000 other players but thats where ive done my most damage-name on partypoker-bignutt.. LATER CHUNG..

Wayne: I have profitably played online poker since 7/99 which makes me a very "old" timer for the net. Additionally I have played serious mid limit holdem for the last 10 years and lower limit for another 10.

Team play exists but unless done by passive collusion is relatively easily spotted. To minimize risk avoid split pot, no limit, and the highest limit games at the site you play.

I do not believe that anyone that has virus protection, firewalls, and computer literate enough to avoid downloading programs from unknown sources has any reasonable basis for concern for ANYONE being able to see your cards. PCanywhere and spy programs do exist BUT it takes basic user stupidity to allow them to infiltrate your computer. There has been one well documented case over a year ago where a "freebie" statistical program (as I recall) did contain a spyware feature that could allow a user to in effect "see" your cards but that was caught and eliminated.

There exists no such software that can "see" your cards at any reputable site that I am aware of.

Caution for newbies is warranted but they run a much higher cost risk by playing over their financial head and doing so without properly studing the game and educating themselves (READ SOME BOOKS) than by being cheated.

ive been playing poker profitably since 1980-online,casinos and home games. in the casinos i play 100-200 up to 250-500 hold-em and omaha///-pot-limit high omaha being my best game-im trying to help the new players on here with the gold-rush poker boom//BUT I NEVER PLAY OVER 15-30 ON THE NET IN THE SIDE ACTION GAMES-if you think a good hacker cant see your cards your smoking crack in my oponion brother-no offense meant-just stating facts..beyond that most beginners are not going to be able to spot the team play-i can take one top player and destroy an average game-sincerely-bignutt..

Like the poster before you said, if you have a good firewall in place and you run good anti-virus and spyware programs, no one will be able to see your cards.

I've been playing successfully for almost a year now and i've never had even an inkling that someone may know what hand i'm holding. I'm done some forensic auditing in my time, so I have a very suspicious mind and I would have noticed if I thought something wasn't right.

If you were saying there is software that allows a player to "see" the next card being turned up, I would be more apt to believe you. Some of the idiots call bets that are terribly loose, but 9 times out of ten those jokers are gone by the time you get to the cash-in level.

Wayne - the best advice we can convey to a novice is to learn the game before they risk to much $$$

Its not "TV" and you haven't seen the 1000 hands played in the tournry that got those players to the spotlight.

Ring limit games live most books will tell you if you can AVERAGE 2 big bets an hour you are in the top 10% of players.

On line due to the speed of the game and the very loose action you can average higher.

But again before anyone starts trying to play multiple games at once STUDY THE GAME. If its holdem STUDY (dont just read) a book by sklansky. If you want to play hi lo try Ray Zee's book. If you are truly serious pick up a math oreinted book like the Theory of Poker (but don't even think of starting with that one).

If you want to "play" and not study buy Wilson software for holdem - its fun and if used properly an excellent learning tool.

Most important of all if the game is tough - winning or losing LEAVE and move tables. That sounds easy but getting "stubborn" costs even good players money.

                Good luck

PS - Wayne the chance of someone hacking your system and tracking your IP and joining your table is roughly the same as hitting a royal flush :-)

I have been playing poker for about 5 yrs now. The only site that i play online is partypoker. About 5 months ago i was at a table and this guy was talking a bunch of shit and started to call ppls cards out. Well at first i figured it was lucky guessing but he called my cards out on four different occasions and even got the suit right. He never said he could actually see my cards, but hinted at the fact. Other ppl at the table laughed it off and actually said they knew this guy. I got worked over by these ppl and learned a quick lesson about online play. Luckily i was only playing the 50 nl tables so i didnt lose too much. For anyone playing online i suggest to them to be very careful and never play with more than you can afford to lose.
(even though i did get scammed on this occasion, i have been very successful in playin the $200 nl hold'em 10 man tourneys, have won a couple these past few months and have racked up a couple of grand. Good luck to all in all of there gambling ventures!!)

That's where i've done very well lately. After taking some beatings while learning the game, i've cashed in 10 of the last 12 single table tourneys that i've played in.
