Wayne, Spark ,Bettors Chat or any Mods

I know I am in the wrong forum but I think this is something everyone should see. Apoligies in advance.

Hey guys Im not trying to bring everyone down but I think this needs to be said.

I was at another sports forum and they were discussing a forum member who committed suicide because of gambling debts.

I have made some $$ and probably lost a lot more but this has been and always will be entertainment. Unless you are that one person in a million who is smart enough over the long haul this WILL NEVER BE A CAREER CHOICE.

Unless there is a game today you are 100% sure on try to lay off gambling at least one day. If you cant chances are you need to reach out to a friend. No matter how bad it gets there are alternatives.

I dont want to bring anyone down today but I think this deserves some reflection and thought into our own thoughts and what is most important in our lives.

On the other forum they wouldnt release the persons user ID so I dont know who it was but I know it didnt need to happen.

Guys have a great day. Im going to go play with my kids.

Wow, that's sad. However, it's reality. Newbies, or anyone that can tell they are toeing the line of abnormal wagering, please let this be a wake up call. It WILL eventually come crashing down and as much as a person thinks they can handle the intense dissapointment and frustration and rage, we are surprisingly weak beings. Do Not let your desire overcome your objectivity.

I have looked into addictions research a lot as I am in the counseling field. This is a much bigger problem than anyone thinks yet NO ONE thinks it will happen to them.

This is one of the reasons everybody preaches MONEY MANAGEMENT, because its a DEFENSE against letting yourself get too vulnerable, among other things.

I have a feeling there were more deep rooted issues with this person than merely gambling debts. Rarely is money the concern in regarding a person taking their own life.

On the other hand I always take a hiatus from gambling from the day after Superbowl Sunday until March 1st. Its my own personal "Gambling Ramadan". I do it 50% to prove to myself I can and 50% because it always seemed to be my biggest losing period of the year.

this is a very sad thing. but this happens for many reasons. people do this over divorce, over money, over losing a job, etc., etc.

just remember EVERYONE loses at one point or another, so get ready for it. it is a losing proposition for most. this should be for entertainment, not to make a living or to pay your bills. if that's what you're trying to do, then quit now!

I also read that thread and was curious why is was removed. Doing a search did not bring anything up either.I had read this gentlemans threads for along time and believe he was well respected over there. It goes to show how little we really know each other online. Also agree with what RJ said about other things may have come into play .Prayers go out to felix the cats family

I very often take days off. I don't have the burning desire to play everyday. When I go on a cold spell I have no problems passing. I recently took about 10 days off. Also, I earn a very good living. I'm never risking my mortgage, car payment etc. This is a form of entertainment for me. If I have a very bad losing night I justify it as an expensive night out for dinner and drinks.
