  • Free Throws In Basketball Today

I look across the board in the NBA and college ball and i see averages about 55% at the FT line. Thats horrible i thought the NBA players actually got paid to make shots, and college players even at home cant sink free throws. Whats basketball coming to, just a big vegas trap?? Horrendous

I wonder what percentage of free throws are missed on purpose if you get my drift.

I've Always Firmly Believed That Freethrows Are 33% Of Basketball. Huge!! Just Like Special Teams In Football And Feilding In Baseball, Freethrows Go A Long Long Way In Saying Who's Gonna Win A Basketball Game.

Well, just watching some of these FTs and how much they miss the shot by and how their usual shot form changes baffles me and makes me wonder...FIX???

I still maintain that it is just a matter of time before some ex college or NBA player will tell or write a book about his experiences in attempting to fix games in the same way that Jose Canseco wrote his tell all book about steroids.
It would make a great opportunity for some ex-athlete to cash in, and the funny thing is it(the book) wouldn't have to be 100% true either to be successful.

            Please not another FIX thread.

Savage, that is the very reason I don't think sports are fixed like many think. With today's selfish, ME player mentality someone would have sang by now. Especially, in college hoops. Many college hoops stars will never get a taste of the NBA. If the fix was really on we would have heard by now.

I never really mentioned fix just had the thought, but I did say the free throw shooting is getting horrible.

Frank-I think it is more likely today that a college NBA game might be fixed than in the past.
There are plenty of bookies on most campuses, and that in itself lends itself to shennanigans especially with point shaving.
The fact that many of the players will not get to the NBA is I think even more reason why if someone ( a bookie) dangles some nice cash in front of some players, they might be tempted to take it.
When you see teams like Dayton struggling against St. Bonaventure, Creighton, Davidson and other teams giving up big leads and teams like Ok. State losing to teams like Nebraska along with many missed three throws, I think that one has to be open minded when it comes to this stuff.
If BC and other teams were indicted for point shaving in previous years, who is to say that it couldn't happen again and more often?
Yes I admit that I had a few of those teams cited above which didn't cover, but even if I did not, I would still say there is a good possibility that fixes or attempts at them occur more often than the NCAA would like to think.
ps I wish Vegas would put out a line as to whether some ex-player will tell all in a book about above, I would make a huge wager that it will happen.
Society is controlled by money, and sports are part of society. Enough said!
ps Obviously I can't prove it any more than you can prove otherwise;lets just hope that OUR bets don't go down the toilet because of point shaving;that is what counts.

Savage as I stated above if it happened don't you think a roll player who has no shot at the NBA would have written a book????? Has it happened? YES. Will it happen again? YES.

Regarding Dayton, Creighton etc. I think we sometimes forget these are 18, 19 year old kids playing under enormous pressure. Also, I think today's hoops player practices there slam dunk more than their FT shooting.

Frank-your opinion is as valid as mine; I know you don't agree with my contention that point shaving goes on in the NBA and in my mind quite a bit over the last few seasons with teams like the Lakers;I guess we will have to respectfully disagree.
ps yes 18 and 19 year olds will miss FT under pressure, BUT 18 and 19 year olds also like money, and some(certainly not all) might give in to that desire and perhaps miss a FT or two for example if they think they can get away with it and will be rewarded for so doing.

theres not many pure shooters in the game any more! thats why players cant make foul shots. if you go to a bb court all the kids practice dunks not shooting. every coll scout looks for kids that can shoot good athlets are dime a dozen. "and one" crap makes it worse.

another great example paul pierce... misses 2 of 3 to cover over on second half he was fouled on a thre pointer, i know its not a fix but if your a pro guard dont you think you should be making at least 70+% from the line

                          Let's put it this way:
I am a relatively big investor in the stock market(I bet pennies on games compare to what I have in the market) although I think that also is fixed and controlled by the marketmakers.
The difference is there is that unlike a game where there is a time limit(at least in basketball and football), you can guess wrong say as to when to buy a stock and still make money over time.
Also as we know, there have been shocking scandals such as Enron Worldcom, illegal insider trading(Martha Stewart) as well as daily market manipulation which everyone pretty much accepts as part of the game.
Surely if this kind of thing goes on regularly,it is quite naive to think that other parts of our society, namely sports, are above this kind of thing.
Money talks and don't ever forget it!
