  • Daytona 500 picks

I've been working hard on this race and I really like my strategy, but I strongly urge all members to check out Wayne's picks on this forum (I'm guessing he'll post Sunday morning before the race). He's the best there is at NASCAR>

I'm using $200 as a wager amount for illustration purposes. It can be $20, or $20,000 but the increments should be the same. Odds from Olympic Sports at time of this post.

$100 on Jeff Gordon at +450
Likeliest winner of the race. Hendrick team is in great form. Gordon always drives well here. DEI advantage on restrictor plate tricks not as dominant as it once was. Unfortunately, the price here sucks and doesn't offer much value.

$80 on Tony Stewart at +1000
Won one of the twin 150s Thursday. Qualified well. Been in contention at Daytona again and again. Many make a big deal over his not testing here this winter. That's silly. The Gibbs team tested the car. Very live longshot and my second choice to win the race.

$20 on Kasey Kahne at +3500
This is my hunch pick. He still hasn't won a Nextel Cup race despite constantly contending. How about getting his first win at the biggest race of all?

Futures bet on winning season championship
2 units on Jimmie Johnson at 5-1
1 unit on Jeff Gordon at 5-1

Hendrick team has been unstoppable. Both guys seem a cinch to end up in the top ten and therefore be in the "chase for the championship." Johnson 2nd in points two years in a row and Gordon a multiple past champion.

      adding

      Let's add $10 on Kyle Busch at +1000 ($10 to win $10,000)
How can you resist 100-1 on a Hendrick driver?

            Daytona

I played these earlier in the week solely on great odds.

            Johnson+2400 now +550
            Biffle +2400 now +2000
            Gordon +700 now +450
            Stewart +1200 now +1000

Today I has to add Kyle Busch at +10000.So it looks like we're on the same page Gris.I have some good info on the Busch race and if the numbers are decent play Kyle Busch in that.

Winner of the 500 will be M. Waltrip..the forgotten DEI car that always is in the hunt at DAytona..I won the Gatorade race with him and I dont see another car out there that is as racey as his, maybe jr.

                          Winner!

Using the increments in my post, one would have wagered $210 and show a profit of $340! I'm especially proud that T. Stewart dominated the race, meaning my two top picks were both right there.

For guidance on next week's race, check Wayne's post. I'm quitting while I'm ahead.
