    THE ANIMAL

    College Basketball:
    3 Units on Northern Illinois +7½ -110

We have two exceptional shooting teams when Northern Illinois collides with Central Michigan tonight in the Chippewa’s final home game. Normally I would gravitate toward a home team on senior night, but I’m having a difficult time finding this kind of line disparity between these two MAC rivals. The Panthers of Northern Illinois have already won outright at Ohio U, Bowling Green, Kent, a! nd Eastern Michigan. They covered this type of number as a 7-point underdog at Miami of Ohio losing by three points 59-56. On the season, Northern Illinois is a perfect 8-0 ATS in conference road games (11-2 ATS all away contests). They are 7-0 ATS as a road pooch between 6 ½-12 points this season. While the Chippewas have been tough at home they can be defeated as was proven by an injury-riddled Akron team last Tuesday night 70-69 as a 10-point underdog. Northern Illinois has connected on 50% or more of their field goals in 6/9 games recently while holding opponents to 46.4% or less in 9/12 lately. Central shots the lights out at Northern on February 22nd hitting 57.8% from the floor in a 87-75 victory. That should certainly motivate the underdog tonight. Certainly respect is given to Central Michigan’s 17-6 pointspread log this season, but we are getting good value tonight with this puppy.

NCAA FREEBIE: MICHIGAN ST. Spartan senior starters Anagonye and Ballinger bid farewell to the Breslin Center floor tonight as Tom Izzo’s boys look to pick up their 9th Big-10 win of the year. They are 13-2 SU at home including a perfect 7-0 in the conference. The Spartans have won and covered 8 of 10 in the series including the last 4 at home and are 15-5 ATS as a home chalk of 6 ½-12. The Spartans have to keep in mind how the selection committee considers the way a team finishes as part of their criteria so a letdown would be detrimental to their “dance” hopes. The Hawkeyes are 6-22 ATS off a conference loss.

Free Winners for Wednesday, March 5
    NCAA BASKETBALL
    Seton Hall @ Pittsburgh
    Pick: Seton Hall +13.5
    Time: 7:00 PM EST

Today the National Sports Advisors look for Seton Hall to cover as +13.5 point underdogs, when they take on the Panthers in Pittsburgh tonight.

The surprising Seton Hall Pirates look to continue their surge thru the Big East conference and onto the NCAA Tournament tonight, when they travel to Pittsburgh to try and defeat the Panthers for the second time this season. The Pirates enter tonight's matchup with an overall record of 16-9, including 10-4 in Big East conference play. The Hall defeated Pittsburgh back on February 15th in the Meadowlands, when they won outright 73-61 as six point underdogs.

Pittsburgh will be looking for revenge against Seton Hall tonight, when they welcome the Pirates into their hostile den. The Panthers have been dominating teams all season long at home, as they are 15-0 at home. The Panthers are 21-4 overall on the season, including 11-3 in Big East play. If Pittsburgh is to get their revenge tonight, they must get focused after a highly emotional 71-67 win over Connecticut on sunday.

So why SETON HALL? Well, we know Pittsburgh will be hungry to win big tonight after losing to Seton Hall a few weeks ago, but we just do not see the Hall being blown out tonight. Seton Hall is playing excellent basketball, having won nine straight heading into tonight. Look for Pittsburgh to win by 8-10 points, but the Hall should get the cover.

MATCHUP: Denver (12-49) at Memphis (18-41)

WHEN/WHERE: Wednesday March 5th 7pm Eastern The Pyramid

THE LINE: Memphis is -8½ points and the total is 186 points

TRENDS/ANGLES: The Nuggets, who have lost 20 of 22 and 23 of 26, are
just 1-44 when allowing their opponent to score at
least 83 points. The home team has won the last five
games in the series. Denver has covered five of the
last six in this series. Memphis has covered their
last five home games. Denver has won two of the three
meetings between the teams -- both at home. The Nuggets
won three of the four meetings between the teams last
season. Denver has won 15 of the last 20 meetings
    between the teams.

GAME SUMMARY: Denver has dropped 13 straight games...Seems as if
8½ points is good enough to make some monry though.

    Superior Sports
    Today's Pick: Minnesota Timberwolves +9
    NBA Pick for Wednesday
    Minnesota @ Sacramento

We will be playing the Minnesota Timberwolves +9 vs. the Sacramento Kings today. Our formulas indicate this is entirely too many points and that Minnesota is a very solid value here. Let us briefly discuss why.

Minnesota played at Seattle last night and lost. It is worth noting however, that the Wolves are a very solid 11-5 ATS on 0 days rest and an extremely impressive 15-6 straight up following an outright loss. And while Minnesota is markedly better at home than on the road, they are playing very well nonetheless. In fact, they are on a 4-1 ATS run their last 5 overall and have won 13 of their last 15 games straight up.

Sacramento is on a 6-1 straight up run their last 7 overall, but is just 1-4 ATS their past 5 games overall. The Kings possess one of the strongest home courts in the NBA, as they are an incredible 25-5 straight up at Arco. However, Sacramento is 0-3 ATS their past 3 home games and in each instance, the spread was a bit higher than we thought it would be.

Consider Sacramento’s last 3 home lines and ensuing results. They were priced at -12.5 vs. the Knicks, when our ratings said they should be -10. The Kings won that game by 7. They were priced at -9 vs. the Pistons, when our ratings said they should be -7. The Kings won that game by 5. They were priced at -10 vs. the 76ers, when our ratings said they should be -8. The Kings won that game by 8.

Our ratings say Sacramento should be -7 vs. Minnesota in this one. Given the current price of +9, go ahead and put us down on the Wolves.

Our Prediction: Sacramento 101 Minnesota 94

      Time 9:00 PM ET-Wednesday March 5
      Current Line: Wake Forest -11

The Demon Deacons enter this game ready to take a conference title for the first time since the 1994-95 season! Wake Forest are a perfect 15-0 SU this season at the Lawrence Coliseum and 7-4 ATS in lined games! The Deacons have been dominating at home, outscoring opponents by an average score of 84-64! The Deacons will face a NC team that are just 9-16 ATS on the season and an inept 5-9 ATS on the road! The Heels are 3-12 ATS in 15 posted games! In addition, the Tar Heels are 1-6 ATS L7 road games and 3-11 ATS L14 vs conference foes! In a previous meeting this season, the Demon Deacons beat the Tar Heels 79-75 covering in the process as 3 point favs! Look for the Demon Deacons to come out gunning early and leading this game from the get go! Big chalk comes through !

      Current Line: Wisconsin –3 ½

The Badgers are one of the best money-making teams in the country, sitting with a sparkling 19-5, 79.2% ATS record. They have been sensational here at home, going 15-1 S/U with a whopping AMOV of +20.6 points per game. Their only home loss was to an excellent Wake Forest team, and they are winning their home Big Ten games by an average of 19 points. Illinois is just 2-4-1 ATS on the road in conference play. We recommend a play on WISCONSIN –3 ½.

      College Basketball Action
      Wednesday, March 5, 2003
      Michigan @ Penn St
      Current Line: Michigan -5

As the college basketball regular season winds down, it's worth recapping one of the most bizarre season's in the last few years: that of the Michigan Wolverines. Ineligible for post-season play, they began the season 0-6 SU, albeit versus a tough non-conference schedule. Then, beginning with a 26-point white-washing of Bowling Green on December 11th, Michigan rattled off 13-straight wins, going 12-1 ATS in the process. At one point, they were in first place in the Big 10, undefeated at 6-0. Their streak was finally snapped by a couple of close losses on the road vs Illinois and Minnesota and since then have gone a rather nondescript 3-3, both SU and ATS. The key point is: this is a team that is a sparkling 17-4 ATS since the beginning of December and has not given up ship, covering 3 of their last 4, including an 11-point pasting of Purdue on the road. If they can notch a win tonight, they have a very good shot at finishing in 2nd place in a very competitive Big 10. Conference doormat Penn St should provide the perfect cannon fodder. The Lions enter tonight's game having dropped 13 of their last 14 contests, all of them conference games. Other than a shocking home win over conference leader Wisconsin, their only other victories this season were over Northeastern, Bucknell, St-Francis-Pa, Robert Morris, and Buffalo. This is NOT a good team folks. Michigan has always been a good team down the stretch (5-1 ATS in March games last 3 years) and they won and covered on this floor last season. Penn St is coming off a demoralizing OT loss to Northwestern their last time out and could be without the services of G Deforrest Riley, their best 3-point shooter, because of tendonitis. Michigan is simply the better team here and we look for them to coast to a relatively easy double-digit win.

      Recommendation: Michigan -5
