  • Saturday Night Fights

    Arturo Gatti -700
    Draw +1800
    James Leija +350
    U 9½ -130
    O -110
    ---------
    Kassim Ouma -200
    Draw +1800
    Kofi Jantuah +150
    U 10½ -120
    O -120

Right now I am leaning towards Gatti and the Over, but I am thinking more about the undercard... Ouma at -200 seems right as his opponent really has a lackluster career thus far while Ouma has beaten the likes of Phillips twice... hard to pass up at those odds. I am thinking he can knock Jantuah out, but I have the feeling he might take this one the distance. Jantuah is 28-1 but a lot of those fights were in Ghana and/or against questionable talent.

I am not likely to play the Gatti fight... not at those odds. I may take a shot at Ouma, and I'll shop around for a good price.

I ended up just playing Ouma to win... Ouma was just too fast and showed a decent chin as he commanded the pace of the match. Ouma got in close a few times and really took Jantuah's power out of it.

Gatti is now a boxer... so much for the blood and guts... but he is a pretty decent boxer. His jab sets his right and hook up perfectly. Leija did get some overhand rights in, but Gatti was very disciplined as he jabbed and moved, jabbed and moved, and then when Leija was in trouble, he went in for the kill. Now ask me how Gatti will fair against Mayweather, and I don't see that one being too easy for him.

One problem is the lack of any real viable heavyweights. The talent seems to be in the lower weight classes (Hopkins, Mayweather, etc), which though may be better examples of boxing skills, are not the heavy hitting, bloodfests that a heavyweight fight can sometimes become. Seriously, if Lamon Brewster (he calls himself Lightning, I call him Lame-ass) can hold a title, we really need to search for some new blood. Samuel Peter fought last week and is still a raw prospect... otherwise Klitschko may be the best out there right now.

We need George Foreman to make another comeback!!!

Gatti looked really good to me, but he looked way bigger than jesse james.
I saw Mayweather last week, Gatti doesn't stand a chance against him, but should be a good fight!!

I think Gatti will need to brawl a bit, may throw Mayweather off his game for a bit... that is realistically his only chance.
