  • Question For All Us Gamblers?

Why Are We In This Anyway? Why Do We Bet? Is It To Make Money? Is It Just Our Mad Money!? I Do It To Honestly Try To Make Some Extra Side Money To Pay For College Courses And Car Payments. If I Go Back And Counted All The Money I've Blown Doing This Its Mind Boggling. Now I'm Trying To Play Catchup. And It Seems Like I Can Never Turn A Clean Profit. There Is Always Someone Or Something In The Way. My Question Is Do Any Of You Out There Actually Make Money Doing This? Thanks For Your Honest Answers And Helpful Replies.

Bad Luck...look at people's records on here...some of them do make money. I have seen alot of people on the + side with units during a whole season.. Nba, Nfl, or any other sport...Thats just my 2 cents

      Bad luck,
I actually gamble (sports, horse and blackjack) as a hobby. The making of money is a motivation and a bonus, if winning. I never bet any money I can't afford to lose.
I can tell you from experience that trying to catch up is a bad decision. You usually begin to press and force plays, a losing combination.
To answer your question about making money at it. I don't think I could feed my family off it, unless I move in with that Olson twin. Any profit I would show now would probably still not negate the "lessons" I took in the past.
If you are getting stressed and frustrated It's really not worth it and If you are losing things because of it IT's definitely not worth it.
      Remember the three R's:
Respect for self; Respect for others; and Responsibility for all your actions.

I play the horses primarily and have been in the black each of the last five years (I started keeping records then, honestly have no idea how I did before that). I got into sports two years ago... and I struggle at times, but have had my moments. I do play some blackjack for entertainment and some poker for fun... but never too serious.

I don't win enough to do this for a living, nor do I play a big daily volume. I do this for the thrill of trying to beat the game. I love playing with numbers and relationships between stats and figures. I love sports and racing, and get a thrill out of watching the games/horses I pick. I'd say I am in it more for fun than money... if I was in it for just money, it would be too much like work!

I have to do forecasting of the construction market at work, risk assessments, and bid hard money jobs... so betting on sports/racing/poker is really just an extension of my day job!

        -smooth

I'll give you an honest answer. For years I thought maybe I was making money, but I was just up one week and probably down more the next. That was then, and this is now. I win just about every week. I make some serious $$$ in all sports. Not to toot my own horn here, but if I wasn't making $$$, I doubt I would still be doing this.

I gamble more for hobby than to make money. I now cap my own games. I'm on the plus side. Years ago I didn't cap. I used a few services including Loser Lawrence. I NEVER won playing a service.

It never ends for me, seasons turn into years. I'm up overall, but I got murdered in NFL this year and its killing me cause I dont have the bank to make it all up with my NBA plays that have saved me. I do this as a hobby. I dont have the balls to do this for a living, I got bills to pay and a family to feed. When I retire I'll spend alot more time on wagering, for now its for the thrill and fun of it. I take the good with the bad and roll with it. Best thing I can say is never bet with $$$ you dont have. Scared money is lost money this much I know. I've never made a bet regardless of $$$ amount that I couldnt cover.

I'm not doing this too long.... I started out doing well, made a little mad money not exactly enough to retire on, then got greedy and got hurt bad, so i am trying to get back somewhere near even, I think i've found the right place and people to help me that..... Let's not forget that addictive adrenaline rush that comes from doing this, as Bryan says it never ends, because we're addicted to the game, I think we're all a form of crackheads with a different drug! Try not to get greedy, if you go on a hot streak don't start thinking you're infallible! Good Luck

                            made some lost some

I play now to earn alittle extra cash...I have had 3 years were I have won over 75k when I was playing dime and nickel bets only...I have also lost around 100k in a year and that year almost landed me in jail.(long story). Haven't been real active over the past 2 years but just play 3-4 games a night at 100 a pop. The extra cash is nice to have. Best of Luck to all and remember that you chasing a win can loose you as much as chasing a lose

I will give my two cents worth since everyone else is.
I do this to have some fun and to try to keep my head above water.
Although overall for the 25-30 years I have gambled, I am behind, I do much better now thanks to the good free cappers (too many to mention) who post here.
As most of you know who read my posts know, I like to have fun with Phil Steele, Daaa Manager, Jack Price/Corey Black and other services on occasion.
My real serious efforts go into the stock market, and I have done well of late.
I find it much easier to invest big than to bet big, because the ups and downs of the games will drive you crazy;stocks can fluctuate but the overall verdict has no time limit like a basketball or football game(baseball is of course different);at age 60 I don't like a lot of pressure.
Its funny though that even with a relatively small bet in say a basketball game that is on tv, most of the time I don't watch it and simply check the score periodically- again don't like the ups and downs unless it is a blowout.
Summing up, betting, reading posts and posting myself meet a need of mine, and this forum and the people on it really make my day enjoyable.
