        College hoops Tip Sheet
        January 5, 2005
Judson Wallace scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in Princeton's win over Davidson. (Getty Images)
        **Princeton at Duke**

--Princeton (8-4 straight up, 3-4 against the spread) returns to Cameron Indoor Stadium tonight for a rematch of last season's game in Durham, when the Tigers cashed tickets in a 69-51 loss as 22 1/2-point underdogs.

--Duke (9-0 SU, 6-2 ATS) is already sporting one of the thinnest -- in terms of depth -- teams it has fielded in a long time. Making matters worse, reserve forward Reggie Love broke his foot in the first half against Clemson and will miss the next 6-8 weeks. Also, Shavlik Randolph is out indefinitely with mono.

--The Blue Devils are unbeaten in six home games with a 5-1 spread record. They are off a 'non-covering' 62-54 home win over Clemson as 17 1/2-point favorites. Junior guard J.J. Redick poured in a game-high 24 points.

--Redick leads Duke in scoring at a 21.6 points per game clip. Senior point guard Daniel Ewing (16.9 PPG) and and junior forward Shelden Williams (15.3 PPG) also average in double figures. Williams leads the team in rebounding (12.1 RPG).

--Princeton is 5-4 SU on the road, 2-2 versus the number.

--The Tigers are led by Judson Wallace, who leads the team in scoring (14.7 PPG) and rebounding (6.1 RPG). Wallace had seven points in double overtime to lead Princeton to a 70-68 victory over Davidson in its last outing. Wallace finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds, but the Tigers failed to cover the number as 8 1/2-point favorites.

--Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

        **Notre Dame at Seton Hall**

--Notre Dame (8-2 SU, 2-4 ATS) has covered the spread in both of its road assignments, splitting the two games outright.

--Seton Hall (8-3 SU, 2-5 ATS) has prevailed in six of its home games, but it owns an abysmal 0-4 spread record at home.

--The Irish are led by senior point guard Chris Thomas, who is averaging 14.6 points and 7.2 assists per game.

--Mike Brey's team has lost at Michigan and to Depaul in South Bend. The Irish don't have any quality wins, unless winning at Indiana counts.

--Oddsmakers at Las Vegas Sports Consultants opened Notre Dame as a two-point favorite with a total of 122.

--ESPN2 will provide television coverage at 8:00 p.m. ET.

        **Alabama at Vanderbilt**

--Both of these teams are coming off Sweet 16 seasons. The Commodores concluded last year with a loss to UConn in the Sweet 16, while the Crimson Tide was also ousted by the Huskies in the Elite Eight.

--Vanderbilt (9-4 SU, 9-4 ATS) is always tough at Memorial Gymnasium, the infamous gym with the benches in the "end zones." Kevin Stallings' team has compiled a perfect 7-0 record both SU and ATS at home this year.

--Alabama (11-2 SU, 3-7 ATS) has had some trouble, particularly against the number, when it leaves the friendly confines of Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide have won four of six games away from Tuscaloosa, but they have posted a mediocre 1-3 spread record.

--Sophomore power forward Chuck Davis leads the Tide with 28 bL**Ked shots. Davis is, at least to me, a strong candidate to be a first-team All-SEC player, thanks to an excellent shooting touch and nasty post moves around the basket. For a young player, he seemingly has incredible "feel" for his defenders in the paint, routinely spinning off foes for easy baskets. Certainly, Davis has a long way to go to be mentioned in the same breath of a Kevin McHale, but his style of play -- when on its A-game -- resembles the former star for the Celtics.

--Vandy has won three in a row over the Crimson Tide, covering the spread in each meeting.

--Most sports books have made Vandy a 2 1/2-point favorite. LVSC started the total at 143.

--ESPN2 will have this telecast at 10 p.m. ET.

        **B.E.'s Bonus Nuggets**

--Florida State's win over Florida on Sunday was the first time the Seminoles had beaten the Gators since 1997. It marked UF's first loss in Tallahassee since 1988.

--Most underrated player in the nation? I'll take Pepperdine power forward Glen McGowan, who is averaging

--If you missed it the other day, Pittsburgh lost to Bucknell -- at home in a non-lined matchup. Ouch!

--South Florida is at East Carolina tonight. The Bulls have lost four of five games when they leave the Sun Dome in Tampa, but they are 3-0 ATS on the road
