            Your welcome leebo ...

Continental Tire Bowl Dec 30th, Charlotte
Boston College blew BCS bowl when it lost last game at home to Syracuse, 43-17, as 11.5-point favorite, as QB Peterson was injured and didn't play. BC is 8-3, won 4 of last five games, and also won and covered its last four bowls (they're 8-2 in last ten bowls).

North Carolina is 6-5, with four losses by 22+ points; in their last six games, they were 4-2, beating NC State, Miami and two other road games to become eligible for this. Their enthusiasm for this game should be better than BC's, since this is their first bowl in three years.

From now on, this will be league matchup, as the Eagles joining the ACC. ACC member Virginia won this bowl game the last two years.

Tar Heels are favored for just second time all year; they covered at Duke in season finale. Boston College is 3-0 as underdog this season. Eagles prone to playing high scoring bowls (average total in last five, 61.2). Tar Heels score a lot, give up a lot, would look at the over here.

Emerald Bowl Dec 30th, San Francisco
Mountain West teams were 9-1 vs spread this year as a favorite in non-league games, but MWC clubs are 0-2 in this bowl games, with dog covering last three. Average total in this bowl has been 45.5.

Navy is 9-2, but lost 42-10 to Tulane and only won by 4 over Northeastern; they lost 38-14 to Texas Tech in last year's bowl, and are 1-3 in bowls the last 25 years, 1-2 vs spread as bowl dog. Middies won at Air force, while New Mexico lost in Colorado Springs.

New Mexico was 2-4 at one point, then rattled off five wins in row, allowing just 13.8 ppg, but only one of those five victims went bowling (Wyoming). Lobos lost three bowls in last four years, scoring just 13.7 ppg; their last bowl win was the '61 Aviation Bowl, so to win this game would be big deal for them.

Think service academy kids are distracted moreso these days, for obvious reasons. Its great to see Navy in bowl, but am guessing New Mexico's stingy defense will give them their first bowl win in 43 years.

Holiday Bowl Dec 30th, San Diego
Cal got hosed by pollsters by not playing in Rose Bowl, that is worrisome, especially since last six Holiday Bowls were covered by underdog, with none won by more than eight points. That said, I think Cal is fourth-best team in country, and would trust Tedford to have them ready.

It has rained heavily in southern California all week, but it is supposed to let up for this game; key to a Texas Tech game is whether or not the opponent can contain their fast-paced passing game. Tech won three of its last four games, losing in OT at A&M; they're 2-2 as a dog this season. Tech defense is better this year, allowing 30+ points in onlt four of their eleven games.

Cal's only loss this year was 23-17 at USC, when Bears had ball in USC red zone in final minute. Eight of their 10 wins were by 17+ points. I don't see Tech scoring ton of points against Cal, and I think Arrington will have big nite on what might be soggy Qualcomm turf.

Cal won 52-49 in its bowl last year, Texas Tech scored 46.5 ppg in its last two bowls, and is dog in bowl for first time in ten years. If I had to choose side in this game, I would go with the Cal Bears to cover, and shade under.

Silicon Valley Bowl Dec 30th, San Jose
Underdog won this bowl SU last four years, with totals of 71-79-51-26. Northern Illinois is in bowl for first time in 21 years; Cindy Crawford's alma mater went 7-1 after 1-2 start; they scored 30+ points in eight of last nine tilts.

Troy State has a terrific defense; they beat Missouri and lost 24-20 at LSU, 17-7 at South Carolina. Troy won its last four games, allowing 10 ppg; they are new to I-A, so this is their first bowl game, although they played lot of playoff games in I-AA. Troy won 17-15 at Marshall of the MAC. Herd did not play NIU this season.

Last of four intriguing games today is two teams far from home and glad to be there. Northern Illinois allowed 30+ points in three of its last four games, so I would side with the better defensive team, Troy State.

              Game of the Day:
Heat @ Pistons-- Best team in east vs the defending champ; Detroit won first meeting, 78-77 five weeks ago, despite shooting 33% for game, while Miami shot 38%. Pistons 5-0 vs Miami last year-plus; the average total in five games, 185. Pistons overcame 59-42 rut athalf last night to win by hoop in DC; they're underdog at home for first time this year. Miami 6-2 as road fave

Elsewhere, Seattle won four of last five trips to Altanta; they beat Hawks 106-85 back in early November, as they shot 51% from floor. Atlanta allowed 113.5 ppg in last two games; they're 1-4 in last five tries as home dog.

Pacers won three of four vs Nets last year, winning both games at this site, both by six points. Average total in the four games last year, 164.8. O'Neal is carrying Pacers; he shot 9-23 in win at Charlotte last night, but had lot of rebounds. Nets covered just three of twelve at home.

Spurs won all four games vs Portland last year, winning at this site by 10,12 points. Average total in four games, 168.3. Spurs are 9-5 as road favorite, 6-2 in last eight tries. Portland is 5-6 vs spread at home; they lost last game to 76ers at home, Monday night.

Lets get them today Homer .............

Hofstra is unbeaten, but they move way up in class in this one, vs sleepwalking Syracuse squad that hasn't left state of New York yet, and led Albany by just ten in second half Tuesday. Good test for Hofstra here.

Home side won seven of last eight Drake-Indiana State games, with Bulldogs losing five of last six at this site. Drake is 0-3 on road, with losses by 27-10-20 points.

Illinois-Chiago lost three of last four games, including a 79-73 non-D-I loss to Wisconsin-Parkside, so they're struggling, while Detroit lost at Chicago State, and was losing at home to D-2 Gannon at halftime recently.

North Carolina struggled at Cleveland State last year, winning 82-76, and Vikings were terrible; this year, Cleveland State visits Tar Heel squad that won its last ten games and has been killing teams.

Marshall's only win in last six games was 74-73 home win over High Point; they're 0-4 on road, with losses by 1-2-12-16 points. Xavier won its last two games by six points each, to even record at 4-4.

Nebraska routed Tennessee last year, 77-62 in Lincoln now they visit Knoxville, and face struggling Vol squad that hasn't played in ten days and is just 5-4. Huskers are 0-2 on road, 80-66 at UAB, 81-62 at Marquette.

Virginia Tech is 6-4; only team to beat them by more than ten points was North Carolina, 85-51, as Heels welcomed Tech to ACC. Miss State is 11-2; this is their last game before they open SEC play next week.

Purdue won 76-65 at Baylor last year; hard to lay lot of points with Boiler squad that is 3-4, with no wins by more than ten points- they haven't played in 12 days. Baylor's only road game was 77-43 loss at SMU.

Gonzaga beat Missouri in OT last year, 87-80; they beat Oklahoma State in Oklahoma City other night, as they prove they belong with big boys, but this is letdown spot for them, vs underachieving Mizzou, who have been off since spunky loss vs Illinois; they're 6-5.

Home side won five of six Louisiana Tech-Tulsa games with Tech losing last three visits to this site by 10-7-9 points. Tulsa is 2-6, as interim coach, but they lost by 6 to Oklahoma the other night, showing grit in their first game under interim coach Williamson.

SMU lost 80-40 on this court last year, after winning previous four visits to Autry Court. Rice swept series last year, after losing seven of previous eight vs SMU. Mustangs are 4-3, losing by 38-14-19 points.

SW Missouri lost five of last six visits to Illinois State, as home side won ten of last twelve series games. ISU is 8-3; they've scored 56 or less points in all three L's. SMS won six of last seven games, allowing 59.4 ppg.

Southern Illinois won at Wyoming last year, 67-62; Salukis won last five games, but only one was by more than 12 points. Wyoming lost four of last five games; they got beat at home by San Diego two nights ago, but they also have win at MVC kingpin Creighton.

Rhode Island lost seven of last eight games, with last two losses by 14,15 points. DePaul hasn't played in twelve days but is 6-3, and has won three of last four. Blue Demons are 5-1 at home.

Colorado State won five of last six games vs Denver, winning three at this site by 16-27-16 points, but they lost to improved Pioneers last year, 84-67 in Denver. Pioneers are 1-3 on road, losing by 4-5-10 points.

Southern Miss won its last three games vs UNO, with 61-59 win last year; Eustachy has Eagles 7-2, with win at South Alabama, in only road game thus far. UNO is 2-1 at home, losing only to Mississippi State.

Utah has Chaney injured here; they beat Colorado by 20 last year. Buffaloes are 7-2, losing by 9 at Michigan 11 at Oregon State. Utes are 9-3, with four wins in a row, all by 11 or more points.

LSU's defense has slipped this year, as they allowed 81+ points in all three losses. Florida State is 7-3, 2-0 in road games, winning at Minnesota, Ole Miss. Huge game in New Orleans for LSU, after losing last two.

Home team won 11 of last 12 Long Beach-Cal Poly games, with 49ers losing last six visits to this site by an average of 15 points. Beach lost its last five games and is 1-7, weith four of last five losses by 9 or more points Cal Poly is 1-6 vs Division I opponents.

Pacific is 10-2 in last 12 games vs Fullerton, winning 5 of last six at this site, with all five wins by 15+ points. Titans are 5-3; they won Big West opener on road at Northridge Tuesday. Pacific is 5-2, with only one win by more than 13 points.

Nevada won its last two games vs San Jose State at this site by 29,27 points; they won last four overall in series. Spartans are 1-3 on road, with losses by 13-13 and 18 points.

Portland won 71-66 at Idaho in last meeting, the only meeting in last six years; Pilots are 9-4, with four of the nine wins by 10+ points. Idaho is 1-6, 0-4 on road, with losses by 10-14-4-29 points.

St Peter's has leading scorer in country but was held to 65 points in three-point win last night. Charleston won big over Harvard last night. Peacocks are 1-4 on road; they've allowed 80+ points in five of eight games.

Birmingham Southern won 20 games last year and had decent win over UT-Martin last night. Chattanooga is 6-2, with win at Tennessee; they've won last four in a row.

Richmond went to Pitt and lost by nine last week; they have history of being spunky dog, as one of few #15 seeds to beat a #2 in first round (Arizona is one of the 2's that lost to a #15). Only two of eight Arizona wins are by more than 17 points.

NC State fought off Columbia Tuesday, as Lions hung in til last 10:00. St John's is without best player, whose junior college records are being questioned. This event is homecoming for Hodge, who played HS in Bronx.

Hartford beat Rider last night, but they lost at home to Albany last week, so doubtful they can hang with hosts who did struggle with North Dakota State last night, winning just 72-66. UWGB is 4-0 at home, with wins by 15-4-17-6 points.

LMU is no stiff team; they lost in OT at Virginia, so the host has handful, despite their 8-2 record. Lions had struggle before beating Northern Arizona by 5; Utah state beat pretty good South Carolina St by 22. USU is usually very good at home.

Morehead State lost 95-82 at George Mason in their last meeting; they lost 104-40 to annoyed Louisville team that was coming off Kentucky loss. Mason lost by 11 at McNeese State in first game of this road trip.

Samford plays like Princeton, just not as well; they're 5-4, with only one loss by more than 14 points. Notre Dame is 7-2, but will be lower scoring game, so harder to cover large spread like this.

Manhattan went to Milwaukee last year and beat these visitors 83-76, but Jaspers not as good this year, with a 4-3 mark, they lost last game by 30 at Arizona. The Panthers are 6-3; they lost last game 73-62 against the Jayhawks in Kansas City, a decent showing.

Niagara won its last six meetings vs Fairfield, with wins at this site by 2-4-5 points; none of the wins were by more than 11. Stags have been off for 16 days; they're 2-0 in MAAC, with both wins in OT. These are top 2 ranked teams in MAAC, in preseason polls.

Louisville is obviously annoyed after losing to archrival Kentucky, when they led by 16 at half; they won 104-40 over Morehead the other night, and beat this foe by 104-63 last time they met. Eastern Ky is 8-2, but lost 98-49 to Florida, a team Louisville beat.

Appalachian State is 0-4 on road, losing by 17-34-9 and 17 points. Miami hasn't left Florida yet, and won't for another week; thjey beat Wofford by 3, a team that beat ASU by nine.

Memphis as a 12-point favorite? Underachieveing host is 5-5, with zero chemistry; they lost at home last week to Louisiana Tech. East Tennessee is 0-4 on road, and three of their five losses are by 17+ points.

Home side won five of last six Middle Tennessee tilts vs Austin Peay, with Raiders losing last three visits to Clarksville by 8 (ot)-10-1 point. Peay is 1-7, though, while MTSU is 7-3, although they're 0-3 on road, 2-1 in neutral court games.

Kansas State lost their first game of season Tuesday, by 10 to Rutgers. Eastern Illinois is 0-2 on road, with losses by 2 at DePaul, 19 at Indiana State. K-State had hoped to be 15-0; this is their last game before the Big 12 opener a week from Saturday.
