Independence Bowl Dec 28th, Shreveport, La
This is bowl where dogs covered five of last six, as SEC teams have dominated, but because SEC didnt't have lot of teams with winning records this year, this slot was not filled. Unless Cyclones bring lot of fans, doubt this is big gate attraction in Shreveport, LA, northwest Lousiana.
Miami was 12-1 last year with Roethlisberger at QB, but now their coach is leaving for Indiana, and team lost its MAC title game to Toledo, 35-27, blowing second half lead to QB playing with broken hand. This is fourth team in MAC to go bowling; first two went 1-2..
Iowa State is first Big 12 team to take field in this game; they were on four-game win streak and had shot to win Big 12 North, but they threw INT in end zone at end of Missouri game and lost, 17-14; they had plus-13 ratio in turnovers their last five games of regular season.
MAC teams were favored in just seven of their 34 non-MAC games, up to this point, and are 3-4 as favorite in those seven games. Five of last six Independence Bowls had totals of 50+, with highest scoring game played in a snowstorm four years ago (no snow plows in town).
Should be spritied game between two teams glad to be on ESPN, especially Iowa State, since big 12 has FOX Sports contract, so they aren't on ESPN hardly ever.

Oregon State ripped Notre Dame in Fiesta Bowl four years ago, 41-9; now, Irish are between head coaches, and lost three of last four games, blowing 20-7 lead at home to Boston College, then allowing 82 points in their last two losses, vs Pitt and USC.
Oregon State blew opener at LSU when they missed a PAT that would have tied game in OT; they then fell to 1-4 before getting hot, behind senior QB Anderson, who has always been stronger player at home, but Beavers won four of last five games, with only single loss by less than 14 points. OSU is 1-4 when it allows 20+ points, so up to Irish to light up scoreboard.
Favorites were 7-3 in Beaver games this year, with OSU 4-1 when favored; they won 28-14 on this field October 30; their only loss in last six games was at home in fog vs USC, in game OSU led at one point, 13-0.
Hard to be inspired by any interim coach, and Beavers were hot down stretch; playing in Pac-10 country has to help, at least a little.
