MPC Computers Bowl Dec 27th, Boise
Underdogs covered Fresno's last five bowl appearances, with Bulldogs 4-1 as bowl dog. Last three years, they played in San Jose bowl, but now go north to play at the field of their arch-rival, Boise State. Favorites covered last four bowls at this site, with wins by 15-24-18-42 pts and six of last seven bowl totals were 52+.

Virginia's motivation is the x-factor here; Groh is 2-0 in bowls with the Cavs, scoring 35.5 ppg. Virginis split its last six games after 5-0 start, so they must be somewhat disappointed; they allowed 30.3 ppg in their three losses.

Fresno won its last five games; scoring 56.2 ppg in those games; last time they lost was on this field in October, to Boise State, 33-16. Blue carpet will be odd for Virginia team that plays on grass, but they have good speed, so it might be helpful.

Weather forecast is for decent day, temps in high 30's with 10% chance of precipitation, so good football day.

Motor City Bowl Dec 27th, Detroit
Game is indoors, so no weather issues here. UConn is in bowl for first time, much like UAB was, and Blazers got spanked by Hawaii, 59-40. Third bowl in last four years for Toledo squad that allowed 126 points in its first two games of year, then won nine of last ten games, including MAC title game over Miami.

MAC champion has covered its last six bowl games, and won them by average of 16.5 points. Toledo followed up their MAC title three years ago with 23-16 bowl win over Cincinnati, in this bowl. They also lost this bowl the following year, after losing MAC title game.

UConn is 2-4 when it allows more than 20 points, and the Rockets will score points (total on game is 67); the Huskies lost four of their five games vs bowl teams this year, beating Pitt in late September- they were just 3-3 after that nationally televised win.

Eagles (13-1) @ Rams (6-8)- Hosts are in free fall, get Bulger back here, but have same awful offensive line, and coaching staff not exactly inspiring spunky efforts from this group (seven L's by 17+ points). Philly lost Owens last week, they have other injury issues on DL, and are locked into #1 seed in NFC, so no guarantee frontliners go sixty minutes here. Still, very difficult to imagine Rams bucking up and beating Eagles here, since Philly has not lost since Nov 7 in Pittsburgh. Eagles defense has allowed five TD's on last 59 drives. How are they an underdog to a spineless team like the Rams?

      Monday's games
Nets @ Pistons-- Last time these two met was Game 7 of Eastern finals last year, when Nets couldn't hold 3-2 series lead. Nets are 3-6 in last nine tries as road dog. Detroit is 1-7 in last eight tries as home favorite. Nets 1-3 in last four visits to this site, with lone win the triple-OT classic in Game 5 of last year's series. Under is 5-1 in last six Detroit home games.

Elsewhere, Knicks are 0-4 vs spread on road this year when they played at home day before, but they've also covered five of last seven as road dog. Orlando won at MSG, 104-98, 24 days ago; they've covered last four tries as a home favorite.

Indiana failed to cover its last seven tries as home fave, and is 2-10 in last dozen SU. Hornets are 11-4 as road dog, as they seldom win, but usually hang tough. NO is 5-2 vs spread when it played the night before.

Wizards covered just one of last five as home fave; they are 2-5 vs spread if they played day before- they lost at Minnesota Sunday, 109-74. Teams are 1-5 vs spread day after playing Minnesota. Charlotte lost in New York yesterday, 91-82.

Miami has won 11 games in row and obviously had little extra riding on Christmas win over Lakers, so easy for a letdown to happen here, vs Hawk squad that is 3-8 as a road dog. Heat is 3-0-2 in last five as a home favorite.

Clippers lost six of last seven, but are 4-3 vs spread if they played day before; they're 3-5-1 as road dog. The Grizzlies beat Clips 92-82 in Staples last week, forcing 21 turnovers. Memphis failed to cover last three tries as a home favorite.

Seattle is 8-3 vs spread on road, 1-0 as fave; they beat Jazz 129-119 in OT the first meeting, their fourth win in last five vs Utah, shooting 52%, while turning ball over just nine times. Utah is 0-3 as home dog, and lost four of last five games SU.

Road team won both Sixer-Blazer games last year, with average total of 173.5. Over is 8-1 in last nine Portland home games, with Blazers covering three of last four at home. 76ers are 1-3 in last four tries as road underdog.

Nuggets won three of four vs Warriors last year, but lost at home to Dallas last night, while Warriors had good W at Arco. Teams are 3-6 vs spread the night after playing both Mavs, Kings, so thats a wash. Golden State is 5-1 vs spread in its last six home games.

        College Basketball

Morehead State is 6-3, with losses by 18 at Columbia, 31 at Kentucky, 26 at Ohio State. Louisville is 8-2, with two wins by 30+ points.

Middle Tennessee won six of its last seven games and is just back from Puerto Rico, where they won two of three losing by 5 to Auburn. Villanova strruggled with America East doormat Albany last week; its hard to tell what they yet.

Rhode Island beat Iona the last three years, by 5-3-11 points, but Rams are 1-6 in last seven games, with only win over Stony Brook. Iona is 2-5, with four losses in a row, so not much to choose from here.

Wisconsin is 7-2, but could be looking ahead to game with Alabama Wednesday; their last two wins are by 29,32 points, so they've been sharp. Western Carolina lost three of last four games, but lost 88-75 at Iowa, fairly close game.

Cincinnati beat Miami the last two years by 12,20 pts; Bearcats have Saturday date with #1 Illinois, team that drilled them in NCAA's last year, so they may take a look ahead. Miami is 6-2, with losses by 6 at SMS, by 13 at Butler.

Playing Princeton in first round of tourney on neutral court is a scheduling disaster, since they're so hard to play against anyway; in near-empty gym, its worse. Tulane is 3-5, with three losses by three or less points. Princeton has yet to allow more than 56 pts in a game.

UTEP is 6-2, but plays soft schedule; they have no Ws by 20+ points vs D-I teams. Alabama State
