Jordanrules, sorry to start my own post on the same subject but i really wanted to make a few points and figured by starting a new thread, maybe some newer people would read::
This is the difference is GOY's between the services, the newer people on here and the veterans::
Services are posting GOM's and GOY's every day because it is their job to take your money. That is it, that is the only thing those clowns are good for. They are salesman and they know if they get on the radio or TV with some stupid BS, or some lie about their record, it is more likely you are buying. Some of the more creative clowns with come up with their "inter-conference GOY", their "underdog GOY", blah blah blah and it is all to take your money. Unfortunately, it works for a few of them but most of these people are small time crminals trying to offset their credit card debt that losing money got them into in the first place. I actually give some credit to the phil steele's of the world who really only do post GOY's a few times a year. Where he loses credibility is that his GOY's are always late in the season and how does anyone really know when a GOY is going to come up.
Newer people here seem to be posting a lot of GOM/GOY's because they are looking for instant credibility. I do not really have much of a problem with this because i am always encouraging people to post. New people, trust me, if you are good at this stuff, in time, you will get the respect you deserve. You have to understand we (vets) have been doing this long enough that we know anyone can be 80% or 20% in a small sample of games. If you want to get a lot of views, in time your good record, good trends, goos stats, or even good humor will achieve that.
Finally, as far as the vets on this site go who are posting GOM/GOY games. We are ONLY doing it so the rest of you can win money. We do not ask you to give us money if you win and we know we are going to get roasted if we lose. I can assure all of you that homer, wayne, ez, blindmice, spaarkie (and so many others) use this term very carefully and are only doing it to distinguish the game from a normal big game and unlike services, you can assure yourself, that if we lose the GOY, we lost a lot of money. The loser services probably play their own games 5% of the time, so they have nothing to lose by always losing (say that 10 times). They will turn around and lie about their record and sadly enough, people new to servies will believe it. I myself can guarnatee you that i have won a lot of money betting the GOM/GOY's of the vets here on the site; a lot of money. And whereas i do not fade the service's GOM?GOY games, i just do not pay them any attention.
Lastly, lately there has been a lot of controversy about people "lying' about their records. I mean, i even think i saw someone question EZ on his record. That is sad, really sad. I for one, do not know my record and always find myself going back to a previous post to check it. So if i am wrong when i post my record, i apologize and assure you i am not trying to deceive anyone. I can say the same for 99.9% of the vets here. By lying about our record, we have nothing to gain.
Believe me, i wish i could lie about my record in college basketball this year!!!!!!!!
sorry so long
good luck
