"You know why reality TV shows are such a hit with us women? Let's face it, they're a great way to lose weight. Every night I nervously sweat off -- or cry away -- a pound or two of water weight. I mean, who didn't shed a tear along with the rejected Gary Coleman look-alike in the yellow zoot suit on American Idol? And don't even tell me you weren't on the phone with your friends blubbering like school girls when The Bachelorette Trista picked sensitive Ryan over suave Charlie.

You-know-who makes fun of me and the other girls, telling me reality TV will make us dumber than Joe Millionaire himself. My husband may be right. But this week, we're all about to enjoy the best kind of reality show: the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship.

It's got everything you want in reality TV: real drama, tons of action, someone to root for -- and against. And there will be a $1-million winner. It's golf's answer to Survivor.

Similar to college basketball's NCAA tournament, this championship is more exciting on the first day of matches than the last. On Wednesday, four No. 1 seeds will each play a 16th seed. Unlike basketball's March Madness when no No. 16 has ever defeated a No. 1, even Tiger Woods is at risk at La Costa. And he knows it. That's what makes it so compelling, so real. Favorites are going to lose. And, although we may not see any tears, we will get regrets about strategy, lots of second-guessing, and people looking into the camera explaining how they were eliminated.

That's what I love about match play. Every hole is its own little tournament. You beat my score on a hole, you win that hole. You're 1 up. On the next hole, you drive it down the middle and then hit it close. But then I hole my bunker shot. You miss your birdie putt. Well, now we're all square. There are more opportunities to talk smack than every episode of Celebrity Mole.

Every hole in match play is sudden death. And if you win enough holes, the match is over pretty sudden, too. Quicker than my 10-year-old son could get his hands on You-know-who's Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition.

Match play is also a great equalizer. Any good player can beat just about anybody else. WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship winners Jeff Maggert, Darren Clarke, Steve Stricker and Kevin Sutherland aren't exactly UCLA, Duke, Indiana and Kentucky. But, who'll ever forget the victories of N.C. State or Villanova? And, mark my words, there will be upsets again this year. No top seed will make it to the finals. How do I know? Let's just say, it's a talent.
