*Atlanta 26 Carolina 17 - The Falcons ran the ball 40 times in their 27-10 pounding of the Panthers in Week Four -- Atlanta's 11th win in this series' last 13 games -- and Carolina's weakness against the run will be crucial once again.
Pittsburgh 27 *N.Y. Giants 12 - While the Giants won't be able to slow the Steelers' Atlanta-like backfield, Pittsburgh's defense will key on N.Y.'s, with the Giants' air game losing steam. These teams last met in 2000, a 30-10 N.Y. victory.
Washington 20 *San Francisco 19 - An impossible pick. Though the 49ers have given up points galore, the win over Arizona had to do them a world of good. S.F. beat Washington for the eighth time in their last nine games two years ago, 20-10.

Steelers (12-1) * Giants (5-8)- Big Ben still unbeaten as Steeler QB, but in four games without Burress at WR, Steelers scored average of 17.3 ppg (six TD's/39 drives); they're plus-15 in turnovers during their 11-game win streak, but only one of their last four road wins was by more than five points. Giants in total freefall, as Manning gets worse each week; they've lost last six games, the last three by 21-24-23 points. Big Blue has two TD's on last 33 drives, have been outscored 69-13 in first half of last four games and are 11 for last 43 on third down.

Redskins (4-9) * 49ers (2-11)- Niners are 1-5 at home, allowing 29.3 ppg; they're 0-11 against everyone but Arizona. Interesting matchup with Washington offense that scored more than 18 points just once this season. Redskins still playing hard, allowing just 13.3 ppg in last three games (three TD's on last 30 drives). Under is 10-3 in Redskin games this year. Flirtation of Erickson with Ole Miss job can't be helping 49er preparation for this game.

Panthers (6-7) * Falcons (10-3)- Atlanta has clinched division, has severe injury issues at RB, so tough to go against solid Carolina squad that won and covered last five games (dog in three of the five), scoring 29 ppg during win streak. Panthers lost at home to Atlanta 27-10 in Week 4, getting outrushed 165-67, with minus-3 turnover ratio. Atlanta has run ball for average of 194.8 yards per game their last six games, but now Duckett and Griffith are both out, so they become more of finesse team.

Game of the Day:
Wizards * Suns-- Both teams had exciting road wins last night; Wiz is now 10-4 in last 14 games, but only one of last four went over total- they won in OT last night at Staples. Suns were down 16 after a quarter last night, but still beat Sonics in Seattle, their seventh win in row and 17th in last eighteen tries. Six of last 7 Phoenix games went over the total.

Elsewhere, Orlando lost last three games of 2-4 roadtrip but they've covered six of last seven at home. Nuggets covered three of last four as road dog; four of their last five road games went over. Denver won first matchup of season 115-102, twelve days ago.

Bobcats lost four of last five games but won last four at home; they're 4-1 in last five as road dog. Rockets are 1-2 as road favorite, 1-3-1 if they played night before. Over is 8-1 in Charlotte home games.

Cavaliers shot 54% from floor in winning 98-96 at Fleet Center; Cavs won last eight home games, covering seven of them, but they got hammered at Detroit in last game. Celtics covered last three as road underdog.

Detroit held Trailblazers to 70.5 ppg in winning both tilts last year; Portland covered for just second time in last 8 games last night; over is 7-2-1 in their last ten. Pistons are 0-5 in last five tries as home favorite; five of their last six home games stayed under.

Indiana covered just oen of last five as road dog, but the Bulls failed to cover only try as favorite this year. Under is 8-1 in last nine Chicago home games; they covered 4 games in row and won four of their last six games SU.

Dreadful Hawks lost 14th game in last 16 tries Friday; they're 2-5 vs spread if they played night before, but last year, they somehow beat Dallas twice. Mavs are 2-10 in last dozen tries as home favorite. Hawks are 1-4 in last five tries as road underdog.

76ers led 90-71 at home last night, and lost to Knicks in OT, a brutal loss, their first in last four games; they won first meeting this year vs Bucks, 107-101, committing 8 turnovers. Milwaukee is 3-7 vs the spread at home.

Warriors shot 33% last night and lost by 17 at Houston; now they face Spur squad that held them to 32% from floor in 91-71 win last month. Golden State is 1-7 in last eight tries as road dog; six of their last seven on road went over the total.

Louisville beat Kentucky the last two years, by 11,18 points, after UK had beaten them three years in row; both sides have just one loss, with Florida the best win for Pitino, and Indiana the best win for Tubby.

Home side won all three Duquesne-Ohio games, with Dukes losing last visit to Athens, 73-60. Bobcats have already lost to American and St Francis. Dukes lost six of their last seven games.

George Washington beat Towson last two years by 10 18 points; Colonials are better this year, already with wins over Michigan State, Maryland. GW is 7-1 and is deserving of top 25 slot. Towson is 3-3, with losses by 2-11-18 points.

Northwestern just had good win over DePaul; they lost at home to Virginia by just 4 points. Seton Hall has two losses, by 8 vs Texas, by 6 vs Richmond. Seton Hall does have a win at Rhode Island; they beat Wildcats in last year's meeting, 63-52, at home.

Texas beat up on Wake Forest last year, 94-81; right now, Wake struggling, as they trailed Elon in second half this week. and Prosser held closed-door meeting with team. Texas is 6-1, losing only to Iowa in Maui Classic; these Longhorns shooting ball very well.

Arizona beat Marquette last year, 75-65, Eagles are a surprise unbeaten thus far, with wins over Wisconsin, Kent. Arizona's lone road game was 78-60 disaster at Virginia; they struggled at home with Utah last week.

DePaul lost at Northwestern during week; here the foe is Illinois-Chicago squad that trailed Duke 38-31 at the half in last game, before getting crushed late. Flames are 3-4, 2-2 on road. Demons are 5-3, as dog has covered most of their games this season.

Illinois State beat Loyola 77-71 last year; Redbirds are surprising 7-2 thus far, but this is their first true road game. Ramblers lost last six games, getting crushed in Chapel Hill last time out. They're 1-1 at home.

Saint Louis beat Dayton last two years, by 8,11 points; Billikens are just 2-5 this year, 1-2 at home; only wins are vs Troy, Oakland- they're scoring 55.1 ppg. Flyers are 3-3, losing only road game by 11 at DePaul.

Western Michigan beat USC last year, 83-65; they're 5-1, with wins at Charleston and IUPUI, and OT loss at New Mexico State. USC is 3-3, 1-1 since firing of Bibby; this is their first game since Majerus was named head coach, so interesting to see how they react.

First road game for 5-1 LSU, which lost by 15 West Virginia, and struggled vs McNeese Wednesday nite. Southern Miss is 5-2, but this is first tough test of the Eustachy era. This is USM home game, but not in the campus arena
