This is Finals Week in most colleges, so not only do you have final exams, but you also have new players becoming eligible, after first semester ends; it gets hard to keep track of all the personnel comings and goings.

Hoftsra is 6-0 and one of surprise teams in nation, with four road wins, although they really have no strong Ws, as all teams they beat are either rebuilding (St John's, James Madison, LaSalle) or low D-I schools.

Citadel is actually 6-1, unusual for them, but only wins over D-I teams were Army, Savannah State, and one loss was 69-34 at Georgetown. Clemson is 6-1, with one lone win by more than 23 points.

UAB is 5-1, with lone loss 86-73 at excellent Okla St team; they beat Richmond last year for first time in last three tries. Spiders beat Seton Hall but now lost three games in row, to Virginia-Wake-VCU.

St Bonaventure beat Arkansas-Little Rock last year by 89-75 score, but now Bonnies travel south with an 0-6 record, not having played in ten days since 70-55 loss at West Virginia. Trojans are 3-4, with D-I wins by 10 and 17 points.

Idaho State is 3-4, losing last game to Southern Utah in OT. Eastern Illinois is 3-3; they lost their last game at home by 16. Neutral floor in Reno favors neither, as Eastern is 0-2 on road, Bengals 0-1 on foreign soil.

Host Nevada lost three of last four games; their D-I wins are by 11,6 points. Florida Atlantic is coached by former UNLV star Sidney Green; they usually score a lot of points, and give up even more.

Cal-Irvine had nice win at Santa Clara Tuesday, and is now 3-2, but 1-2 on road. San Jose State is 3-4, 2-2 at home; they went east last week and lost 58-40 at a rebuilding Georgetown team.

St Mary's won four of last five vs Sacramento St; they lost last two visits to this site, Hornets did, by 14,9 pts. Sacramento lost its last five games, with only one loss was by more than 18 points. St Mary's lost in Hawaii last week but then won at San Diego State to go 5-4.

        Friday's games
        Game of the Day:
Suns * Sonics-- Two pleasant surprises meet for first time this year; last year, teams split four meetings, with average total in the four games, 201. Phoenix covered seven of its last nine road games. Sonics are 18-3 their last 21 games, covering five of their last six. Seven of last eight Seattle games went over total, and Suns, for sure, will not back off the pace.

Elsewhere, Raptors, Pacers both lost seven of last eight games; under is 4-1 in last five Indiana games, 3-1 in last four Toronto home games. Indy has covered four of last five at home, as Reggie Miller has played well of late.

Knicks covered their last five games, with the over 3-1 in their last four games and 4-0 in Sixers' last four. NY won first season meeting 96-88 on Nov. 9, forcing 76ers into 28 turnovers. Philly playing better of late, winning, covering their last three games.

Portland lost five of last seven games, covering once; in their last five road games, 0-5 vs spread. Hawks lost 13 of last 15 games and covered two of last eight; six of last eight home games went over total. Blazers won both in this series last year, by 7,8 points.

Celtics covered just two of last ten home games; they lost at home to Denver Wednesday, a hangover from the double OT win at Staples Monday. Home side lost both series games last year. Ten of last thirteen Celtic games went over the total.

Spurs won ten of last twelve games, Hornets lost 11 of its last 12, but won last time out; they're 4-2 vs spread in last six games. Spurs covered four of last five road tilts. Three of last four Hornet games went over the total.

Sixth road game in a row for Nuggets, who won eleven of their last fifteen games; six of their last seven went over total. Miami won and covered last six games; they lost to Denver 104-95 13 days ago, as both teams shot over 50% from floor, and both had over 20 turnovers.

Clippers lost their last three games (by 2, in 2OT's, again by 2); they lost in OT to Minnesota 13 days ago, missing shot at buzzer in regulation to win. Wolves are just 3-3 in last six games; they're 4-3 vs spread after a win. Clips lost here last year twice, both times by dozen points.

Nets covered just four of last 17 games, but are 5-3 SU in last eight, as Kidd's return has stabilized things. Griz is 4-9 in its last thirteen games, 1-3 in last four; last game was their first over in last dozen games. Last year, Nets lost their visit to Memphis by 110-63 score.

Warriors are 4-3 in last seven games, but they're 2-7 vs spread in last nine road games and scored just 74 ppg in losing both visits to this site last year (by 2,18). Rockets won four of last five games, with seven of their last nine staying under the total.

Lakers covered their last four home games; they're 2-3 vs spread if they played night before. Wizards lost last two games after 9-2 run; they're 7-2 vs spread their last nine road games. Lakers scored 121 ppg in winning both meetings last year, by 21,12 points.
