Today when I called the Northcoast comp. line to get my comp. pick, Phil Steele in alluding to his winning marquis play on the over in last night's football game referred to this particular play as "his AWARD winning Marquis play."
My question is what does the word "award' mean when it comes to handicapping?
Is this something akin to the Academy Awards for films held in Hollywood, the only difference being that it is an event for nominees for handicapping abilities and held in Las Vegas?
Also, if this is the case, what are the nominations for:1) maybe best capper for a big game; 2) best overall capper over the last year, 5 years, etc.;3) maybe one for best newsletter;4) maybe one for most creative and believable marketing;5) maybe one for best comp. plays for those who don't want to pay;6) maybe one for the best overall service when price is factored in.
On the negative side, I suppose awards could be given out for ther worst handicapper, the biggest liar/scamdicapper, most boring daily phone message (Northcoast wins this one hands down), etc.
If in fact these annual awards are/were to be given out, I can almost envision the one for best newsletter:
After all of the nominations are read including the one for best newsletter, the emcee says, "May I have the envelope please. And the winner is Phil Steele of Northcoast with PowerSweep."
Can you imagine seeing Phil walk up to the stage in his black tuxedo to accept the award?
Well, I would think he would walk up to the stage with a copy of ther latest PowerSweep in hand.
He would then start the usual speech about how grateful he was to all of the people who made this possible especially his parents, etc.(I sure hope that there would be a time limit on the acceptance speech;otherwise Phil might go on forever).
Then he would shed a few tears and wipe them off with his PowerSweep Newsletter making sure that everyone saw the latter.
Then he would probably then give a commercial telling all in attendance and the millions watching on tv that because he was so happy over the award, he was going to offer the 2005 PowerSweep Newsletter with bonus everything for the next three days for the very special rate of only $79.
He would probably then conclude by saying that upon completion of the show he was flying to East Podunk University and other colleges to check out the spring practice so that he would have a handle on how that team would perform in the upcoming season so that he could have the edge needed to bring you more winners.
Thats my scenario;I would love to hear what anyone else thinks about the question I posed at the beginning.
