Illinois State qualifies in a 41-8 ATS subset of a 95-45 ATS home momentum situation and I certainly don’t mind going with the underrated Redbirds. Illinois State was picked to finish near the bottom of the Missouri Valley Conference, but the Redbirds are an experienced team (4 returning starters) and the impact of junior college transfer forward Lorenzo Gordon was not anticipated to be as significant as it is. Gordon looks like he might be one of the MVC’s best players, as he’s averaged 18.5 points and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 56% from the field in the Redbirds’ first 8 games. Gordon makes Illinois State a much better team than anticipated and my ratings favor the Redbirds by 7 ½ points in this game. Marshall has a long history of struggling on the road and they are just 10-30 ATS when visiting a team with a win percentage of greater than .300. That trend has not been as strong under current coach Ron Jirsa, but it certainly doesn’t hurt us. I’ll lay the points with Illinois State in a very solid 3-Star Best Bet that has a 62% chance of covering at the current line of -6 points.
