Frank Beamer's team collapsed down the stretch last year losing FOUR of its final five games (only win was in OT vs Temple!) while allowing an average of 35 PPG! However, that famous Va Tech defense is BACK in 2004, as the Hokies are 6th in total defense and tied for 3rd in scoring defense (allowing just 13.1 PPG)! Tech also owns 26 takeaways and a pass defense that has allowed just six TD passes while intercepting 17! Virginia has impressive numbers on BOTH sides of the ball, averaging 31.9 PPG and 436 YPG on offense while allowing just 15.1 PPG and 295 YPG on defense. However, it has been Va's inability in its only two "big" games of the year, that gets me on the Hokies here!. Against FSU (road) and Miami (home), Va averaged just 12 PPG and 298 YPG on offense while allowing 33.5 PPG nd 425 YPG on defense! In fact, no opponent Va has beaten this year has won more than SIX games, with the team's eight wins coming against opponents with a collective winning percentage of just .435! At the important QB position, Va Tech's Randall has 10 TDs and just one interception in his last five games while Va's Hagans (after completing 70.1% with 5 TDs and 1 INT plus 3 rush TDs in his first five!) is completing 58.3% with two TDs and four INTs and zero rush TDs in his last five! Va Tech was a MESS when Va beat them last year 35-21 but the previous four year the Hokies had won by 12, 14, 21 and 24 points. That's an average win of 17.8 PPG. I'll take that! CFB Game of the Year 10* Va Tech.
