At what point does a pro athlete (I use that term litely for Thug Artest) have the right to go into the stands and attack a fan????? NO MATTER what happened, you get hit with a water bottle, someone says something about your mother anything like that, if you are an athlete you just LEAVE the court, the playing field etc... and let security handle the idiot who threw something. Artest is a typical ghetto person.

How about some stiff fines and punishments for the disruptive FANS to discourage this kind of think in the future?-maybe 6 -12 months in jail might make them think twice next time.
The whole thing in my mind is trivial compared to thousands of American soldiers and Iraqis who have actually DIED so far!!!
ps I am not saying Artest is right, but players are human, and perhaps a fan might not be as bold next time if he knows he is going to face the consequences of his action.
I hear about a 40 or more game suspension for Artest;in my book that is absurd UNLESS you alaso want to throw the offending fans in jail for a minimum of 6 months.Last edited by savage1; 11-20-2004, 12:41 PM.

The more i see it and think about it, your right guys. My stance in the past has ALWAYS been that players should NEVER enter the crowd. My problem is that fans are really getting TOTALLY out of control. They take these games personally and think these multi million athletes are whiny and spoiled. THEY ARE but they are signing contracts they are OFFERED by owners. Me and you would sign to in a heartbeat. The owners are the reason why they make millions and then the owners pump up the ticket prices to pay for their contracts. I just think at some point the fans need to cut the shit and GROW UP THEMSELVES. Why doesn't anyone feel sour toward an actor or actress that makes 1 movie a year, gets 9 months off and makes 20 million dollars? It's mind boggling to me that it never gets talked about like athletes and their 5,7,10, or 20 million contracts. Yes a movie is $9 (about) but you see that once for the most part and a player gives you 100's of days of enjoyment for his salary. Why don't people throw bottles and spill beer on those people that are "Spoiled" and "over paid"?
I'm done and i've said my piece but i bet if someone dumped a beer on Brad Pitt or someone that they would fly off the handle as well whether they were on the street or in a seat.

Alcohol.....
is what the problem is !!!!! To many drunk, stupid, no good piece of crap idiots. There #1 reason for going to the game is to get drunk and yell at refs and players alike. That is why there is no beer sold at college football games and the reason we carry our flask of liquor in the game......the cause was alcohol......no doubt about it. Did you see the people pouring beer on Oneal as him and others walked thru the tunnel? Stupid drunk idiots. No doubt about it...winning and grinning...

To me fans throwing beer on players heads and hurling objects at them is just as serious an offense as players going after the offending fans.
I don't care how much players earn as opposed to fans;they are people first and have the right to respond to attacks; some things go beyond money.
I am not a violent person by any means, but if a player is physically attacked/provoked (I am not talking about verbal insults about his playing ability), more power to him if he responds in kind;maybe some of the dirtball fans will get the message.Last edited by savage1; 11-20-2004, 01:50 PM.

Good post savage. That's kinda what i've been trying to say. Verbal comments should not be responded to but when people are trying to physically assault you with objects you should be able to defend yourself. Say plastic bottles all you want but add liquid in them and let someone fire one at your face then tell me how it feels and how angry you are about it. That plastic bottle argument is simply a joke IMO.

Hey Wayne-perhaps teams should post warnings in the stadium/arena that the management cannot be held responsible for players attacking fans if the latter "throw" anything at the players OTHER than insults about the player's playing ability.:D
