    Friday's games
    Southern Miss lost its last two visits to Memphis, 24-3, 22-17; both teams gave up ton of points in last game, as USM got crushed at home by Cincinnati, 52-24, and the Tigers lost to Louisville 56-49, after they'd lost 49-10 vs Cincinnati. Average total in last series five games is 33.4. Eagles are 5-2, 1-1 as dog; their losses are by 24, 28. Memphis is 5-3, 2-3 vs spread as a favorite.

    Hawaii covered its last five games vs Fresno, winning last visit to this site 31-21, losing previous one 45-27. Rainbows are 4-4, 0-3 on road, losing by a combined score of 161-52 (54-18 avg). Fresno scored 94 points in winning its last two games since the Boise debacle; at 5-3, they can still get decent bowl bid. 66.8 is average total in last five series meetings.

    Boston College covered just two of last 11 trips to play West Virginia, losing last two visits 34-14, 24-14; home team covered seven of last eight series games. Mounties won last four games, three by 12+ points; they're 4-3 as fave this year, while BC is 2-0 as underdog, with both their losses by a FG, at Wake Forest and Pitt.

    Michigan State is 12-0-1 vs spread in its last home game the last thirteen years; favorites covered nine of their last 11 games vs Wisconsin, which is still unbeaten, and has five league wins by 11+ points. Spartans allowed 77 pts in losing last two games; they had two WRs arrested for shooting off homemade bombs this week on campus, a stupid prank but a distraction. Badgers 4-2-1 as a fave.

    Iowa won eight of last eleven vs Minnesota, covering 10 of 11; average total in last three series games, all won by Hawkeyes, is 65. Iowa won last five games, allowing 10.2 ppg, while Gophers lost four of last five, allowing 68 points in losses at Indiana, Wisconsin. Three of last four foes rushed for 228+ yards vs Minnesota.

    Northwestern covered six of its last eight games vs the Wolverines, six of last nine in Big House, but they lost last two series games, 37-3 and 41-10. At 5-4, spunky Wildcats won four of last five, allowing total of 17 points in last two weeks; they're 5-1 as dog this year. Michigan won its last seven games,; they play hated Buckeyes next week. Wolverines are 3-4-1 as a favorite this season.

    Texas Tech won four of last five vs Aggies, with 48-47 OT win in last visit here; they covered 12 of last 15 vs A&M, and three of their last four road finales. At 6-3, Tech has lost when it scored 24 or less points; they are 6-0 when they score more than 24. Aggies are 6-3, and allowed 77 points in losing last two games; dog covered their last four contests.

    Mack Brown always struggles vs Oklahoma, can he get win vs former Sooner aide Mangino? Kansas is 1-6 in last seven games, scoring just 12.7 ppg in losing last 3 in row; they're 3-2-1 as dog, but are using backup QB in passing offense. Texas was down 35-7 last week, then scored 49 points in row; they scored 82 points to win last two road games, 51-21 and 31-7.

    Utah won its last four games vs Wyoming by an average of 35-9; they're 9-0 this year, and after slipping to #7 in BCS standings, they need to keep winning big, if they are to play in big bowl. Utes covered eight of last 11 vs Wyoming, which is 6-3, beat Ole Miss, and scored 96 points in winning last two games. Cowboys are 5-0 at home; their losses are by 31-11-23 points.

    Notre Dame covered just one of last dozen games when they had bye the next week; they won last two at home vs Pitt, 24-7, 14-6, and covered eight of last nine series games. Irish are 4-2 as faves, Panthers 1-3 as underdog, and are coming off tough OT loss in Syracuse. At 5-3, all three Pitt losses are by 7+ points, but none by more than 12. Pitt 3-6 vs spread in last nine road finales.

    Road team covered eight of last 11 Georgia-Auburn tilts, with last two at this site both decided by FG; underdogs are 8-4 vs spread. Georgia covered last road game ten of last 13 years, and is 8-1 in '04, losing only 19-14 at Tennessee. Not only is Auburn unbeaten, they have eight wins by 18+ points; they're 6-0-1 vs spread in last seven Dawgs are a dog for first time this season.

    UCLA and Oregon are both 5-4, so winner here is bowl eligible, and loser has tough rivalry game they'd have to win to go bowling. Visitor covered ten of last 13 series games, but Ducks covered last four. Bruins are 1-6-1 vs spread in final road game last eight years. Bruins are 1-4 if they allow more than 14 points. Ducks 2-3 as favorite.

    Major complication to Florida-South Carolina game has centered around Spurrier possibly replacing Holtz with the Gamecocks next year. Florida is 5-4 and needs win to go bowling with lameduck coach; they're 4-3 as fave, their last four games all went over. Carolina allowed 75 points in last two games but is 2-0 as dog and 3-0 on road in '04, allowing total of 16 points in three games.

    Gilbertson is lameduck coach at Washington, which has covered just two of last nine vs Cal, and is 1-8, 0-9 vs the spread. Cal escaped Oregon 28-27 last week and has major rivalry game next week; their three road wins are by combined score of 143-21. Cal drubbed its old coach 54-7 last year in Berkeley.

    Favorite is 8-0-1 vs spread in last nine Arizona State-Washington State games; ASU is 2-7 vs spread before a bye, while Wazoo is 5-0 vs spread the week before its Apple Cup game was Washington. Sun Devils split last four games, winning by 6,3 points; they've allowed 36.3 ppg last four weeks. Coogs ended four-game skid last week; they're 1-2 as dog this season.

    Oklahoma allowed 70 points in last two games, both on road, and escaped both times; here, they face nebraska team trying to learn how to pass; they're 25-71 in last three games, and are 5-4, 1-2 as dog. Sooners just 3-6 as fave this year. These rivals did not play last two years and Huskers have gotten lot worse since then; they're 7 for last 41 on third down.

    Ohio State has Clarett distractions all week, Purdue has 4-game loss streak to deal with, as they've scored just 15.5 ppg in its losses; they're 1-5 in last six tries as fave. Buckeyes 3-0 since Smith became the QB, scoring 27.7 ppg; they're 7-2-1 vs spread in this series, but 3-7-1 vs spread week before playing rival Michigan. In last three series games, Purdue scored total of just 28 points.

    Miami is 6-2, but lost last two in row, and getting points for first time in '04, from Virginia squad that is 7-1, but lost 36-3 to Seminoles and scored just 16 vs Maryland last week. Running QBs give 'canes trouble; their plus-11 turnover ratio disguises weak defense that allowed an average of 31 ppg in last four games. UVa 5-0 at home; can they hand Miami its third loss in a row?

    Boise State won last three vs San Jose by average score of 52-11; it was 77-14 on blue carpet last year. Boise is is 8-0, had last week off, but has allowed 73 points in its only two road games, winning by 16,3 and going 0-2 vs spread. Spartans lost last four in row, none by more than 18 points; they're 3-4 as underdog this season.

    Alabama covered its last six trips to LSU and won seven of last eight trips here SU; visitor won last three series games SU, last two by combined score of 58-3. Bama is 6-3, with losses by 17-17-4 points; they're 1-1 as dog. LSU had last week off; they won three in row, by 3-4-17, but are 2-3 as a favorite in '04, and have minus-10 turnover ratio in last four games.

    USC weathered the fog and tough Beaver squad a week ago in Corvallis; now they face Arizona team that got its second win last week, but is 1-2 as road dog, with road losses by 20,14 points. USC outscored its last two foes 83-7 at Coliseum; last four years, they covered the game before the Notre Dame game. Favorites covered seven of last nine series games.
