You won’t get much defensively from either of these teams. However, the Celtics have superior and more reliable shooters. Boston will need LaFrentz to get hot and force the
Blazers to guard him outside the paint. BOSTON 100-97.

*Indiana over LA Clippers by 2
If the Pacers lose on Tuesday (as we expect) they will look to rebound back in Indianapolis. For this to happen, Jamaal Tinsley and Steven Jackson must step up, put up some points and earn their newly-signed contracts. INDIANA 92-90.

*Philadelphia over New Jersey by 7
Hard to imagine anyone on the Nets roster getting in the way of Allen Iverson’s quickness or Kenny Thomas’ toughness on the post. PHILADELPHIA 101-94.

*Washington over Orlando by 2
Second of back-to-back games for both teams but Orlando should be more tired coming off a running game versus Dallas. WASHINGTON 91-89.

LA Lakers over *Memphis by 1
Should be a fast-paced game here. Memphis won both home games versus LA last season, but the Lakers are better suited now to play against the Grizzlies style of play with a good stock of swingmen on the roster. LAKERS 96-95.

*Cleveland over Phoenix by 9
This is the Suns fifth straight non-conference game and fourth consecutive on the road. They will be worn out and looking ahead to more important games. CLEVELAND 92-83.

Milwaukee over *Charlotte by 6
Milwaukee proved tough at home last year. Keep an eye out on Mike James to see how he takes to the starting point guard slot. MILWAUKEE 93-87.

*San Antonio over Golden State by 11
The Spurs dominated the Warriors when they squared off last year at home, beating them by 13 and 25 points, respectively. With the Spurs improved and the Warriors still well below-average, there’s no reason to think things will change soon. SAN ANTONIO 98-89.

*Utah over Toronto by 1
The Raptors elusive guards could be an important factor. Utah’s Gordon Giricek is known for his outside shot and not much else, so look for Jalen Rose to take advantage. Rose also has a size advantage. However, Kirilenko and Boozer will force Carter and Co. to the outside. UTAH 90-89.

Sacramento over *Seattle by 7
In a match up of two teams that like to run-and-gun, you’ve got to go with the Kings. Brad Miller won’t be challenged too much and will have space to get on the boards and distribute the ball through the middle. SACRAMENTO 102-95.
