Here is some soccer info that I got off the sportsline site in the NCAA Basketball Mejia Selections Message board. I have used his plays before and he does good, I don't have any numbers for you though. He doesn't post everyday, but I can post his plays here when he does. I usually compared ilovefootball and DGPatalano(the guy's id on the sportsline site) plays and for the most part they had the same picks.
*******British Carling Cup*******
Play On: Tottenham Hotspur, 2:45PM ET
Reason: Tottenham is in Englan's Premier League, holding a decent 3-5-4 record. This team has played VERY respectable so far this year on the road in this league, going a flat 500, allowing only 4 goals in 6 games. (2-2-2) This team has beaten Everton in Everton, beat Newcastle in Newcastle and tied Chelsea in Chelsea. Burnely plays in the Championship, but has not been impressive at all. Burnley is presently 4-5-9. They have won only 1 game in their last 7 and have lost their last 2 home games in their league. Tottenham is definitely a much stronger team in the Premier League. Although this game is in Burnley, it shouldn't play a factor.
Play On: Arsenal, 2:45PM ET
Reason: This is a battle of 2 top teams in the Premier League. But cmon...it is in Arsenal. Arsenal is 4-0-2 at home and have scored 19 goals in those 6 games. Everton is 7-2-3 for the year, but going into Arsenal always proves to be a hard test. Arsenal is mad about that recent loss to Man U which broke that undefeated streak. With this Cup game, look for Arsenal to show up and show everyone they are not laying back and lounging. Everton is coming off a loss in Chelsea as well.
Play On: Portsmouth, 2:45PM ET
Reason: This game is comparable to the Tottenham game. Portsmouth is a better team than Tottenham in this situation. Portsmouth is 4-4-3 in the Premier League while Cardiff is only 4-7-7 in the Championship. In their league, Cardiff has only won once in their last 5 matches. Portsmouth has recently just beaten Man U 2-0. With that in mind, it is kind of hard to pass up this one.
*******Austrian Erste Division*******
Play On: Lusteanau, 1PM ET
Reason: Lusteanau is one of the best teams in this league, looking to be promoted to the T-Mobile Bundesliga next year. Lustenau is presently 9-3-4 with an undefeated home record of 5-0-3. At home, Lusteanau has scored 15 and only allowed 7. Their opponent is LASK Linz, a poorer team in the league with only a 4-7-5 record and a 2-4-2 road record. On the road, Linz has scored 8 but allowed 17. Lustenau has won their last 2 while Linz has lost their last 2 and are winless in their last 4. Home field will kick in for the powerhouse Lusteanau.
Play On: Ried, 1PM ET
Reason: Ried is an even better team that Lusteanau. Ried is 10-5-1 for the year, where they have scored just as many goals as Lustenau (31) and allowed less (18 instead of 21). Their opponent, Altach, is on Linz's level, boasting a 5-8-3 record, but with a horrible 1-6-1 road record. On the road, Altach has scored 5 goals and allowed 16. Although Ried is 5-3 at home, they are still too overpowering for Altach, scoring 17 and allowing 8 in those 8 games at home. Ried has won their last 3 and Altach has lost their last 2.
*******German DFB Pokal*******
Play On: Hannover, 1PM ET
Reason: In this Cup match, you have to favor the home team. Hannover is clearly better than Dortmund in the 1st Bundesliga. Hannover plays beautiful ball at home, going 4-1-1, scoring 12 and only allowing 4. Dortmund plays a flat 500 on the road. Hannover has won their last 5 out of 6, including 3 in a row at home (1 was a killing against powerhouse Wolfsburg). Dortmund lost their last road game to Bielefeld. Hannover is clearly the team to take here as the game is in Hannover.
Play On: Werder Bremen, 1PM ET
Reason: Werder at home against a 2nd Bundesliga team, a mediocre one in that...cmon. Werder's opponent, Trier, is 4-3-5 in the 2nd Bundesliga, playing 1-2-3 on the road. Werder is one of Germany's biggest and best teams as well all know. They left their slow start and are back into things. Werder is tied for the most goals scored in the 1st Bundesliga. They are 3-2-1 at home, but are undefeated in their last 4 in their league. Trier has lost and tied their last 2 games on the road in the 2nd Bundesliga.
Play On: Bielefeld, 1PM ET
Reason: Bielefeld is one of the best defensive teams in the 1st Bundesliga. This team is has played 500 ball (5-5-2) so far and has only allowed 12 goals in those 12 games. They play Karlsruhe, a poor 2nd Bundesliga team. Karlsruhe is 3-4-5 in their league, witha 1-3-2 road record where they have doubled the amount of goals allowed versus goals scored. Bielefeld has won their last 2 at home in the 1st Bundesliga while Karlsruhe has only won once in their last 4 games in the 2nd Bundesliga.
*******Dutch Amstel Cup*******
Play On: ADO Den Haag, 1PM ET
Reason: ADO plays in Holland's Casino Eredivisie, the top league in the country. Although they are not one of the better teams in the league, their opponent in this game is one of the worst teams in the league below them. ADO plays Emmen, a team that is 2nd to last in the Gouden Gids division with a 2-7-4 record. If you think that Emmen's record in that league with beat ADO's 2-7-1 record in the Eredivisie, then don't play this one.
Play On: Roda, 1PM ET
Reason: Roda is middle of the pack team in the Eredivisie. They are 4-5-2 for the year so far and are a respectable 2-3 on the road in their league. Their opponent, the Go Ahead Eagles, are one of the lower teams in the Gouden Gids like Emmen. The Eagles are 3-7-2 in that league with only a 2-3 home record. The Eagles have lost 3 in a row, including 1 at home. Roda will prove to be the much stronger deserving team in this match as well.
Play On: Helmond, 1PM ET
Reason: Helmond is a decent team in the Gouden Gids Divisie, boasting a 4-5-3 record, where they have only lost once all season at home (2-1-3), scoring 10 and allowing 8 goals. Their opponent, Top Oss, is not much lower in the standing than them, holding a 4-8-1 record. Top Oss' record on the road is pretty explanatory though. They are 0-6 where they have scored 4 and allowed 20 in those 6 games. Helmond should have no problem here being Top Oss isn't smelling their own grass.
*******French League Cup*******
Play On: Montpellier, 1PM ET
Reason: Montpellier is one of the better teams in Ligue 2. They boast a 6-5-4 record, playing 3-3-2 ball at home where they have only allowed 8 goals in those 8 games. Their opponent, Reims, is lower in the table with a 4-6-5 record, but are winless on the road with a 0-4-3 record, where they have scored 5 and allowed 14. Montpellier is undefeated in their last 3. With Mont's great D, giving up 11 in 15 games, I see this one definitely going to the home team.
Play On: Monaco, 1PM Et
Reason: Now, Monaco isn't on fire exactly in Ligue I right now, but if you're a Monaco fan, you gotta put something on this. One of the best Ligue I teams going into one of the best Ligue II teams home field. Monaco visits Sedan in a game that will be nice to watch. Monaco is 5-2-6 in Ligue I, only losing 1 game on the road. They have also only allowed 4 goals in those 7 games they have played on the road. That will probably be enough for them to win in Sedan. Sedan is 6-4-5 in Ligue II with a 4-3-1 home record. Sedan has only scored 9 goals in those 8 games at home. Sedan is winless in their last 4 and lost their last home game in their league. Monaco is undefeated in their last 4. Take the little principality here.
Play On: St. Etienne, 3PM ET
Reason: St. Etienne might not be one of the better teams in Ligue I, but their opponent is one of the worst teams in Ligue II, and St. Etienne is at home. Etienne is 2-5-6 in Ligue I, but hold a respectable 2-2-3 home record, where they have only allowed 7 goals in those 7 games. Creteil, their opponent, is 2nd to last in Ligue II, holding a 4-8-3 record, going winless on the road at 0-6-2 scoring 4 and allowing 12. St. Etienne has only lost 1 out of their last 4 and just beat Nice at home.
Play On: Metz, 3PM ET
Reason: Metz is one of the better teams in Ligue I this year, going 4-3-6 with an undefeated record of 2-0-5 at home. They have only allowed 3 goals in those 7 games at home. Bastia is 3-5-5 in Ligue I, but are winless on the road with a 0-3-3 record where they have only scored 3 goals in those 6 games. Metz just beat Bastia 2-0 2 weeks ago in league play, no reason to think otherwise here.
