Hit my first 5
play last night with the Wizards, and FINALLY got a miracle cover to go my way for a change with the Cavs. Interesting, they say you always forget the backdoor ****** you win, but remember the ones you lost. I actually have tracked mine this year in football (and now NBA), as far as last minute meaningless scores, hail mary's and downright miracles have gone, I'm a very unlucky 4-20. This includes everything from the Browns miracle hail mary vs. KC in the preseason, to the South Florida 65 yard TD run on Wednesday night to spoil the over. Not my year guys, but two breaks have gone my way in the NBA this year, so maybe it's time to turn it around!!!!
Two out of three winning nights (although the losing night was BAD). So here goes for tonight.........
4 Pimps
Memphis -3' - Clearly my best play of the night, and can't figure why this line is only 3'. One thing Houston is not, is a deep team. They play their 5 starters, Tyronn Lue and Juwan Howard, that's it. Memphis goes 10 deep and forces an up-tempo game. Houston has turned the ball over 32 times in their first 2 games, and I look for them to turn it over another 17 or so tonight as Charlie Ward, McGrady & Yao all turn the ball over too much. Memphis can throw big bodies at Yao all night with Gasol, Stro Swift, and now get Lorenzen Wright back as their starting center. Whoever controls the tempo of this game wins it, and Houston still looks uncomfortable with all the new pieces. I like Memphis by double digits tonight.
3 Pimps
Indiana +2' - Key here is Ron Artest's ability to shut down Paul Pierce. Last year, Artest held Pierce below his season average in scoring, but the real key, and what actually amazed me, is Artest's ability to keep Pierce off the free throw line. Last year, Pierce averaged 8 FT attempts and 6.5 makes. In the 4 games against Artest, he averaged 4.2 FTA and 2 makes. Artest forces Pierce to shoot the 3 rather than letting him drive to the hoop. Since the start of 2003, Indy is 54-27 ATS, including 12-7 as a dog and 28-14 on the road. Conversely, Boston is 34-47 overall, 15-23 as a favorite and 15-26 at home.
2 Pimps
Orlando +3' - this is a much improved Orlando team. Mobley should eat up David Wesley, and Dwight Howard is for real. New Orleans couldn't keep up with the Mavs on Wednesday, and Dallas showed you can run on New Orleans. Orlando had 34 fast break points, and should be able to run to a straight up victory tonight.
Utah -1' - This is a good Utah team. They have a very formiddable front line with Kirilenko, Boozer, Harpring & Okur. Not many good guards on this team, so Speedy & J-Rich could get off, but they'll have to rely on their outside shot. Considering Richardson shot 28% from 3pt range last year and Speedy 18%, I'll take my chances. Close game, but like the Jazz by 5.
1 Pimp
Chicago -2' - New Jersey sucks. Period. After Richard Jefferson, their leading minutes guys were the following: Ron Mercer (how old is this guy?), Eric Williams (27th team in 2 years), Jacque Vaughn (oh my), Jason Collins (starts every game with 2 fouls before tip off), Zoran Planinic (actually not too bad), Rodney Buford (more bricks than Acme), Aaron Williams (still can't figure out if he's white, black or mixed), Travis Best and Alonzo Mourning. Those last names speak for themselves. The Bulls are not going to be a good team this year, but with Curry, Chandler, Hinrich and a few promising rookies in Nocioni, Deng & Gordon, they should be able to handle the miserable Nets.
Other opinions (2-3): Phoenix/Philly UNDER 197, Chi/NJ UNDER 174, Utah/GS OVER 171', Seattle -10'
