  • NFL Week 9........

Let me continue to bang my head against the wall in the NFL. This is my first play for week 9......

5 STAR: Kansas City (-3) OVER TAMPA BAY

The Chiefs are on a roll and even though they are on the road, I think this number is way too low against a struggling Tampa Bay team. The Bucs defense is still good, but they are nothing like the dominating units of previous years, and they are below average at stopping the run this season, ranking #21st in the league in rushing defense. They will have a tough time stopping Priest Holmes and the Kansas City rushing offense that ranks #1 in the league at over 167 yards per game. Kansas City's defense might be one of the worst defensive units in the league, but they should be able to get some stops against the Bucs offense has struggled all season long averaging just over 15 points per game. This is the worst team that Kansas City has played all year and the Chiefs are 7-4 against the spread the last three seasons when playing a team with a losing record. Tampa Bay is a rested home dog, which is usually a nice play, but I don't see them breaking the momentum of a hungry Chiefs team that is making a push to get back in the playoff hunt. Lay the points here!

    2004 NFL RECORD

    10 STAR RECORD 0-1 (-11.0 UNITS)
    5 STAR RECORD 3-8-1 (-29.5 UNITS)
    3 STAR RECORD 7-5-1 (+4.5 UNITS)
    2 STAR RECORD 10-12 (-6.4 UNITS)
    1 STAR RECORD 6-3 (+2.7 UNITS)

    OVERALL RECORD 26-29-2 (-39.7 UNITS)
    A $100 player would be down $3970

    Good luck,
    John

    kc

*Are you a closet KC fan tucked away in Houston? I think I have seen you post KC as a 5-star at least 3-4 times this year.

          Play #2

This is my second play for this Sunday......

3 STAR: ST. LOUIS (+3)(-$120) OVER New England

The Steelers snapped the Patriots 22 game winning streak last week and even though many expect New England to bounce back against the Rams, I don't think that will be the case. The Rams are a rested home dog that are facing a very banged up Patriots team at home on the fastest surface in the NFL. New England has been battling injuries all season, but the biggest blow can early last week at Pittsburgh when Pro Bowl cornerback Ty Law went out with a knee injury. Law is the key to the whole defense and he will not play against St. Louis and they may also be without their other starting corner, Tyrone Poole who is also banged up. That is bad news against a Rams team that is 5th in the NFL in passing offense. The Rams usually play to the level of their competition as their win at Seattle and loss at Miami suggests, so I look for them to come up big here at home and hand New England back to back losses. Take the points!

          Good luck,
          John

              Play #3

This is my third and last play for Sunday, I may post a play on the ESPN game, but not until Sunday afternoon.......

3 STAR: MIAMI (-3) OVER Arizona

We all saw Miami get destroyed on Monday Night Football, but I look for them to bounce back and get the win here against the Cardinals. I always like playing against teams that travel from the West to play on the East coast for a noon kickoff and this is the second straight week that Arizona has made the trip East. The Cardinals have lost 17 straight games on the road and they are only 1-9 against the spread in non conference games and 4-10 against the spread when playing a team with a losing record. I look for a very strong effort by the Miami defense that was embarrassed on Monday Night by the Jets. The Dolphins defense should do a good job at shutting down the Arizona offense that is averaging just under 14 points per game on the road. I also ook for Jay Fiedler to make enough plays on the offensive side of the ball for the Fish to get the win here. I know its hard to do, but lay the points!

              Good luck,
              John
