  • NFL Play 10/25

Didn't post any picks for Sunday because I was just too busy. I did make some wagers and basically broke even after winning a big play on the Packers but losing several smaller plays. And just for the record, I hate the Jaguars as they have officially become the team that will ruin me as I bet against them week after week and they somehow win and cover with very little talent. Anyway, here's my record updated from the weekend before last:

    Record for 10/16-10/17: 5-3
    Record to date: 19-17-2
    Units for 10/16-10/17: +2.00
    Units to date: +12.00

    Here's my Monday Night pick:

    Cinncinnati Bengals @
    Denver Broncos (-7)

Let me start off this pick by saying I'm a Denver Broncos fan. That said, I try not to let my preference for teams sway my wagering, and often, I will avoid betting on or against a team I'm rooting for, but I just can't do that here. On top of all that, this is going to be my largest NFL wager thus far this season. As I'm sure many of you know, the plus to wager for or against a team you're a fan of is that you have a better knowledge of the team, and often a better feel for the team. All that being said, here it is: The Broncos will lose this game tonight outright. There, I said it. While I'll happily be taking the points here just in case the game is close and a Bengals prevent defense allows a game winning TD or FG, I'm confident on this one.

So the question likely is: why? The Broncos, ever since Elway retired, have just not been a mentally tough team. Season after season, I have watched them slump in middle/late October. If feels like every single season they lose at least one mid-late season game on the road to a team they should have trounced. I predict this will be that game. First of all, don't let anyone convince you that Jake Plummer is a good quarterback, he's not. Second, don't believe that Denver Running Backs are only good because of the "system". While it's true that it helps, it takes a certain RB to do well in their system, Reuben Droughns is just that kind of back. The problem for Denver is: I fully expect the Bengals to stuff the run and force Jake to beat them. Anyway, good luck to all who wager on this game. How I do here will give me a much better idea of how my reads on teams have progressed.
